Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Using external .js javascript library in A5

    Hi
How can i use an external javascript library .js file in A5? Can i make it available in all grids as in jQuery, or should i specify in each grid/dialog it's used to point to that external file?

    Thanks
    Jaime

Re: Using external .js javascript library in A5

While anyone answers, i am trying to use the underscore.js library in my dialog, so i went to "JavaScript Linked Files" property, and entered underscore.js, and copied the file to my a5webroot directory, but this doesn't seem to do the trick. So i tried to enter the full path in the property (ie c:\a5webroot\underscore.js) but still no go...
Also, how can i stop execution in a specific javascript line in the browser?

      Thanks
      Jaime

Using alert() function in your code will stop all JavaScript execution until you accept that message box.

Thanks but i meant how to stop execution in order to debug, i.e how to put a breakpoint somewhere in the javascript code?

JavaScript runs in browser so that is the place to debug. If you use Firefox and Firebug is installed just press F12 select script tab and so on..

Re: Using external .js javascript library in A5

I know, that's exactly what i've been doing. Problem is it's very hard for me then in the console to get the pointer to my object so i can start debugging.
In my scenario for instance, i have a dialog with the new calendar control for dialogs. The control's name is SCHEDULE. I am trying to debug the constructor for each day in the control which is plain javascript. Once it's constructed and i try to check it's properties, i can't find the object anywhere, i have to browse the DOM for hours to glean info ( since it's all wrapped in the dialog which is wrapped in the whole application )

I'm not sure if this is what you want, but you can add your own .js file to your web project.

Will adding it to the project make all included functions in it available for use in my dialogs?

I've only used it in version 10.5 so far (my javascript knowledge is limited).
It didn't work for me on my first quick test, although that
doesn't mean it can't work. I'll try to give a better effort
                    when I'm at the office.

Many thanks. Will keep testing as well.
In the meantime, i pasted all the contents of the .js file in the "javascript functions" section in my dialog :-)

Re: Using external .js javascript library in A5

Checking the Project Properties in the Web Control Panel, i see a "Links" property under "Javascript Libraries". I guess this is where to attach external .js to the project. The problem is there is no explanation for it in the properties page, nor in the documentation/wiki. If anyone has any idea how to add the .js files to my project, i'll be more than happy.

                        Thanks

I would also like to know how to use this. I've got three external libraries that I'm using and when I try to debug I get a bunch of error that won't let it run. Because of this, I can't use the internal load jquery from property.

Anyone ever figure this out yet? I could use it now too, and can't seem to find the magic combination.

This is my first time viewing this thread, what is not working? I use external js in a couple situations and either reference the js file in the grid properties, the A5W page or the Head section of a tabbedUI, as needed.
