Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Mystery - White Band bottom of custom toolbar

In working on my layout, I added a custom toolbar (menu) locked to the the left side of my application. When I turn off the window bar ( control panel tabs) as I plan to do in the finished app I find I am left with white band on the lower left. Hopefuly you can seen it in the image I have attached to the post. I have yet to find a way to fix it so the color flows to the bottom of the toolbar. I suppose I could make the background white but that seems a poor fix to the issue. Does anyone have any advice on how to resolve the problem?

    Thanks.

I use custom toolbars, locked to the left side, and turn off the window bar, and I don't see the white band at all. Not sure what to suggest.

Solved - but is it s bug????

        Partially solved!!!!
The mystery bar shows when I dont have a system menu. When set to none in the form properties, the white bar shows; when I set the form property to view system menu it disappears. I am guessing this must be some form of a bug. I will next try a menu that does not have any items and see if it fills the gap as a work around. Thanks to everyone who took the time to read the post.

Now I am puzzled. All I know is adding the menu bar gets rid of the white band. There must be yet another cause and therefore another solution

                  Nick

I have not done this before, do I export the layout and then upload the files here?

                    Sorry about bthe dealy.
You need to build a small new database, with just one table, one form and one toolbar, showing the problem, then zip it up and attach it to your post...

OK, I didn't see any response from you so I built a small prototype myself. It shows the same problem you are reporting. So now I need to see what my production system is doing that the prototype is not doing. More when I hasve it...

Sorry for not posting the sample. I have been all caught up in passing values between forms.

I am glad you were able to duplicate the problem so it is not just a John problem. Apart from the partial solution I posted earlier I have not found a resolution.

John, I see you have come across the problem of Frame Headers!
You might be happy with the presentation where the frame title is within the frame line ---Frame Title----, and this seems to be the default when there is a Browse on the form.
If you want the one with the title inside a coloured strip, create a blank frame on a new form, copy, paste to the form with the Browse and using the Order function in the Properties for the frame, Send to Back.

                            Ted:
I was out of the office this morning, and am just getting back to work in the project. So now I learn, there are problems having frame headers! Will I ever get a handle on A5 and how it works. ;)

Wow, never in a gazillion years would I have even considered frames as a source of the problem. I often use frames to give a logical grouping of data on forms for a user and like them for that purpose. I will give your suggestion a try and see if the work around resolves the problem. Based on what you said my thinking is this must be A5 bug that did not get fixed. Too bad.
                            Regards,

                            John W.
