Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Dialog Security Video Needs Clarification?

    I'm trying to implement the delete security function per Dialog Security video D_SF_4.
    At 3:57 of this video, the A5.MessageBoxShow() function is cut off and is outside the recording area.

    Can anyone please tell me what the function is that is being cut-off?

    Thanks,
    Stephen

    Okay, I think I figure this out.

    Messagebox syntax is: A5.msgBox.show(title,html,type,onClose)

    So, I think this should be:
    Code:
    A5.msgBox.show('Delete Security','Delete Security For This User?','yn',function(action){
    if(action=='yes'){
       {grid.Object}.ajaxcallback('G','{Grid.RowNumber}:all','deleteSecurity','','');
       }
    });

      Okay, so I'm still not having any luck deleting security ... where the video explains the Xbasic function, again everything above line 28 is cut off.
      DelSec Function.PNG

      I prefaced this code with function deleteSecurity():
      Code:
      function deleteSecurity ()

      '------------ use oldDataSubmitted to find record as saved before editing

      dim UserName as c = e.oldDataSubmitted.UserName

      '------------ attempt to delete security first, then update 'UserName' in 'Employees'

      if UserName <> "" 'User record was previously saved with a 'UserName' then OK to delete security
      	dim cn as sql::Connection
      	dim args as sql::Arguments
      	args.set("UserName",UserName)
      	if a5ws_delete_user(UserName)
      		if cn.open("::Engineering::Employees")
      			cn.Execute("UPDATE Employees SET UserName = NULL where UserName = :UserName")
      			cn.close()
      		end if
      	end if
      end if

      end function
      But when I run this and click the Yes button, the browser yells "Object doesn't support this object or method".
      Can anyone help me with this delete security feature?

      And ALPHA, please make sure your videos are complete .. don't get me wrong, they are great ... just don't assume we know the missing bits!

          Sorry I can't help Stephen, but i would like to point out that there are more videos that are also cut off on the right side. I have found 3, and being fairly new, have a very slim chance of figuring out what is missing. I also wish Alpha would include the files to used in the videos. That would save a ton of re-writing all of it.

            Stephen, you managed to find a solution to this yet? Struggling with the same problem. Very new at alpha and have no idea how to debug the onclick event's call to the deleteSecurity xBasic function. Is there a way to step into the function using the debugger?

              I downloaded firebug and even though I have no clue how to use it I manage to see the following. Maybe someone can interpret and assist. When I copy the error it reads G_REGISTEREDUSE_D_EDITUSER_QNYL_DlgObj.ajaxCallBack is not a function Line 355

                Jaco, no I haven't figured this out, it is beyond me I'm afraid. I moved on to working on releasing a locked out user.
                Perhaps one of our more knowledgeable users will be kind enough to jump in?

                  Re: Dialog Security Video Needs Clarification?

                  Got this working, I believe. Here's the XBasic delete function

                  Code:
                  function deleteSecurity as c (e as p)

                  dim UserName as c = e.oldDataSubmitted.Username

                  If UserName <> ""
                  	dim cn as sql::Connection
                  	dim args as sql::Arguments
                  	args.set("UserName",UserName)
                  	if a5ws_delete_user(UserName)
                  		if cn.open("::Name::yournamedconnection","yourlogin","yourpassword")
                  ' cn.execute("DELETE FROM tblRegisteredUsers WHERE UserName = :UserName",args) ' use this to delete the record
                  			cn.execute("UPDATE tblRegisteredUsers SET UserName = NULL where UserName = :UserName",args)
                  			cn.close()
                  		end if
                  	end if
                  end if

                  end function
                  And here's the javascript on the Delete button

                  Code:
                  A5.msgBox.show('Delete Security','<div style=\' padding: 10x;\'>Delete Security for this User?</div>','yn',function(action){
                      if(action == 'yes'){
                          {grid.Object}.ajaxCallback('G','{Grid.RowNumber}:all','deleteSecurity','','');
                  //        {Dialog.Object}.ajaxCallback('','',xbasicFunction,'',additionalData);
                      }
                  });
                  I have to say... I've no idea why this works. We are in a dialog, calling an Xbasic function... in a dialog... with a grid.Ojbect, 'G' ajax callback... got me scratching my head on that one... but it works. I would have thought it would have been a dialog.Ojbect callback.

                    Re: Dialog Security Video Needs Clarification?

                    Quick note on David's code above:
                    Code:
                    if cn.open("::Name::yournamedconnection","yourlogin","yourpassword")
                    "yourpassword" should be in plain text. I was trying to use the encryped version from the alphaDAO string for the named connection. Using the encryped password worked in the "Interactive Window" but, It did not work when I published the site. Resulting in many lost hours hammering away at finding a solution. I ended up using an alternate way of specifying the named connection string:
                    Code:
                    dim cn as sql::Connection
                    dim cnString as c = "::Name::myNamedConnection"
                    if cn.Open(cnString) then ...
                    Further testing revealed that it also worked as:
                    Code:
                     cn.Open("::Name::myNamedConnection")
                    Presumably because the username and password are embedded in the named connection string.

                    My code also worked using the {Dialog.Object}.ajaxCallback method as well as the {grid.Object}.ajaxCallback method.

                    The full code that I ended up using for deleting a user is in the following thread:
                    http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...ecurityhttp://

                    Many thanks for this thread.
