Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Please help- zip file included

I have been three days now trying to get this to work. Looking at help files all the alpha books i have and i still can not get this to work.

I have included the zip file of it all.

I have a customer form and on that form i have a button that when clicked should open up a form that lets me add the current customer to a special group.

That's it the rest of it all works.

I have a group look up working good i just can not get the current customer to be added to a group so i can look it up.

I remade all the files so the Zip file is very basic showing just what is need for this to all work.

I have all the tables linked as one to many.

I keep getting a (no records in query) when i push the button to bring up the next form that lets you pick a group to add this customer to.

    Please see the zip file.

I have this same problem on a few other things if i can see how to do this then i will be able to get the other ones to.

    Thanks

    Ed:
Did you look at the sample template "Membership Manager" that comes with A5? That one does groupings.

I just took a look and that dose not do what i need it to do,

It is not using a button to open another form to pick a group from.
I have most of everything working except the opening of the other form.

      See my zip file.

I am glad you pointed out the Membership Manager i see lots of new things to check out in the Template folder in V8 i never looked at.
I only looked in the sample folder.

      Thanks

        Ed:
I moved your Customer form to the gb2 set (the same as your second form) and then redid the button to call up your second form and that made it work. See if that is correct.

            That is working thank you..

But now i see another problem.

I need to be able to let each customer be part of many different groups.

Using the Alice customer every time i add her to another group the old one is removed?

Any way to stop it from removing the other record?

Two things: You will get this if you go back to the Membership Manager and study the sets. You will need to create another set linking your Type to Group to Customer. Two, when setting field names, I would suggest that you try not using the same field names in different tables, as when you do links it gets confusing as to which ID's you are using and which table they come from.

Anyway, the Membership manager, I believe, shows the proper set to get Sally to belong to more than one type or group.

Yes i have been looking at it (Membership manager) and i think it dose a lot more then what i have set up.
I am going to try and move it in to take the place of what i have now and make changes to it for my use. I like all the reports all set up and everything about it even the memberships Gold, Silver and so on i can use that i hope for -- letting me know if a person is a Customer or prospect and turn a prospect into a customer..

I hope i am thinking about that in the right way for it to work like that--Customer or prospect.

                Thanks
