Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    help with changing funcition form email_send() to email_send2()

    I would like to change from email_send() to email_send2() so I can include an alias, Cc, and store in outbox.

    I have my settings correct in project properties, but I need help with what and where to change below function (which works perfectly)

    function emailSendSMTP as c (e as p)

    dim cn as sql::Connection
    dim flag as l
    dim sqlStmt as c
    dim rs as sql::ResultSet
    dim cntEmail as n = 0
    dim pm as P
    dim ps as P

    flag = cn.open("::Name::MyConnection")

    if flag then

    sqlStmt = "SELECT email from customers WHERE email <> '';"

    flag = cn.Execute(sqlStmt)
    if flag then

    rs = cn.ResultSet
    while rs.NextRow()

    if (email_smtp_open(ps, "smtp.emailsrvr.com", 25, "[email protected]", "password"))then
    pm.to = rs.data("email")
    pm.from = "my_email"
    pm.subject = e._currentRowDataNew.subject
    pm.html_message = e._currentRowDataNew.messageBody
    email_smtp_send(pm, ps)
    end if
    email_smtp_close(ps)

    cntEmail = cntEmail + 1
    end while
    emailSendSMTP = "emailResult('" + cntEmail + "');"

    else

    cn.Close()
    dim msg as c
    msg = "Could not execute the query. Error reported was: " + cn.CallResult.text
    msg = js_escape(msg)
    dim jscmd as c
    jscmd = "alert('" + msg + "');"
    emailSendSMTP = jscmd
    exit function
    end if

    else

    dim msg as c
    msg = "Could not open the connection. Error reported was: " + cn.CallResult.text
    msg = js_escape(msg)
    dim jscmd as c
    jscmd = "alert('" + msg + "');"
    emailSendSMTP = jscmd
    exit function
    end if

    cn.FreeResult()
    cn.close()

    end function

    I'm sure this is really simply, but reading the help files are not helping much at my skill level
    Thanks
    Tony

    Re: help with changing funcition form email_send() to email_send2()

    This is what I have come up with, replacing the red text with:

    pm.from = "[email protected]"
    pm.from_alias = "My Name"
    pm.to = rs.data("email")
    pm.subject = e._currentRowDataNew.subject
    pm.html_message = e._currentRowDataNew.messageBody
    email_send2(pm)

    But it does not work, any ideas?

      Re: help with changing funcition form email_send() to email_send2()

      The Help text states you need an Alpha email profile. If you have not worked with those in the past it is best to avoid them. Why do you not want to use email_smtp_send()?

      Note : EMAIL_SEND2() requires that you have configured an Alpha Five email profile. If you are working in an environment where this is not possible, use EMAIL_SMTP_OPEN(), EMAIL_SMTP_SEND(), and EMAIL_SMTP_CLOSE().

        Re: help with changing funcition form email_send() to email_send2()

        Thanks Steve for replying,

        I was wanting to use email_send2() so I can include an alias, Cc, and store store sent messages in outbox.

        I have set up an email profile and used it by adding an action javascript to a button and choosing the email action and letting Alpha Five do the work and it did work. (This is how I know the email profile is set up correctly)

        I would still like to get it working and experiment with it before moving on to something else, if at all possible

        Thanks again

          Code:
          function email_send_new as c (e as p)
          debug(1)
          dim cn as sql::Connection
          dim flag as l
          dim result as l
          dim sqlStmt as c
          dim rs as sql::ResultSet
          dim cntEmail as n = 0
          dim pm as P

          flag = cn.open("::Name::MyConnection")

          pm.subject = e._currentRowDataNew.subject
          pm.html_message = e._currentRowDataNew.messageBody

          result = email_send2(pm)
          if result then
          cntEmail = cntEmail + 1
          end if
          end while
          email_Send_new  = "emailResult(' " + cntEmail + " ');"

          else

          cn.Close()
          dim msg as c
          msg = "Could not execute the query. Error reported was: " + cn.CallResult.text
          msg = js_escape(msg)
          dim jscmd as c
          jscmd = "alert('" + msg + "');"
          email_Send_new = jscmd
          exit function
          end if

          else

          dim msg as c
          msg = "Could not open the connection. Error reported was: " + cn.CallResult.text

          exit function
          end if

          cn.FreeResult()
          cn.close()

          end function
          i have reworked your code
          see if this works.
          it might need fine tuning if it does not work, i can take a look later on like this evening.

          to make it easy to distinguish i changed the name of the function.
          i have also removed the semicolon in the sqlStmt, i am not sure that is needed.

          ps: make sure all ifs have their end ifs.

            I have tried to get it working but have not had any success.
            ifs appear to have end ifs.

            Thanks

                Thanks for the video!

                I noticed you were using a button on a grid and the ajax callback has a different set of choices.
                I am using a ux component and I have included a screen shot of the ajax callback choices.

                Thanks

                  Re: help with changing funcition form email_send() to email_send2()

                  wish this was in your first post. the callback function showed me to use the grid with a button, if it were a dialog/ux then common use will be
                  e.dataSubmitted.your control name.

                  I redid the screencast to show you. but the function call still remains the same.

                  take a look:

                    this is the revised code,
                    note the placement of cn close and free result
                    and the indentation for readability and error checking ifs and end ifs
