The QReport Builder seems to be the tool I'm looking for to begin using QuickBooks and Alpha5 for our accounting needs. But I have a few questions that I need answered before I purchase the report builder.
We are in a regulated business in 5 states, each of which has slightly different regulations for reporting sales of our products. These regulations have made it difficult to find any off the shelf accounting package to meet our needs.
For example, many of the products have serial numbers which must be reported by line item on invoices. QuickBooks does not have this capability.
Additionally, usage taxes (in addition to sales taxes) are charged for many of the items, but the calculation methods vary depending on the type of product. Quickbooks does not have this capability, though we could add it to the invoice after separately calculating the usage taxes (too time consuming).
My hope is that I could write routines in Alpha to capture the serial numbers and calculate the usage fees and then either (1) capture the Alpha data to print invoice through QuickBooks or (2) capture the QuickBooks invoice infor to combine with the Alpha data and print the invoice through Alpha.
Is either of these possible with QReport Builder?
My next question is whether I could use this with Alpha runtime?
And my final question relates to QuickBooks in a multiuser environment: Would the user have to continually refresh the QB data?
I hope these questions are not too simplistic. I can conceptualize the relation of the Report Bulider to Quickbooks, but when I throw in Alpha, I'm having trouble conceptualizing how all three might function together in a multiuser environment. I guess to summarize I'm wondering whether I can realistically use Alpha and QReport Builder to supplement the invoices in QuickBooks with the additional information required by State regulations.
Any help you all can provide so that I make a wise investment of the company's time and money would be appreciated.
