Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: List Control In Different Panel Card

    Can I return the argument, so in return value would I set that to Expression and then put :argPID (the agrument)? Then in list 2 filter on that argument?

      Re: List Control In Different Panel Card

      I don't think so.
      But what would be the value of :argPID? The value set to the textbox 'ID'?
      I thought with {dialog.Object}.setValue('ID',this.value[0]); that you were trying to update textbox 'ID' with the value (ie. the return value) of list 1 on onClick.
      So the return value needs to be properly configured anyway for you to get the value that you want to update in 'ID'. Seems like an extra, useless step though.

      I assumed list 2 needed a value from one of the fields of the selected row in list 1. If you don't want to or can't change the Return value of list to that field, you could set 'ID' with
      {dialog.object}.setValueFrom('ID','list::list1::theListFieldThatYouWant')

      How about a quick test? On your onClick, after {dialog.Object}.setValue('ID',this.value[0]);
      do an alert to and get the value of 'ID', output it, and also output this.value[0]

        Re: List Control In Different Panel Card

        :argPID is set to the value in textbox ID at runtime. Seems I cant change the return value from primarykey. So are you saying with {dialog.object}.setValueFrom('ID','list::list1::theListFieldThatYouWant') that I put that in list 2, if so where? ID textbox is already being set correctly, but need to be able to use :argPID in list 2 to filter that list. I appreciate you trying to help me with this!!!!!!

          Re: List Control In Different Panel Card

          Perhaps the attached component will help.
          Import it directly into the web projects control panel.
          It uses the NorthWind database, so if you are not seeing any records, check your connection string.
          Hope this helps.

            Re: List Control In Different Panel Card

            Well, if you can't change the Return Value for List 1 from primarykey then when you were trying to do a setValue of 'ID' with this.value[0], you were setting 'ID' with the primarykey from the selected row on list 1.
            So if :argIDforList2 was configured to get the value from the textbox 'ID', you were getting the primarykey value anyway. You could've got it directly from the list without going through the step of setting the value of the textbox.

            Not sure that this is the most efficient way (I'm not expert) but if you want a value from another field in list 1 but can't change the Return Value of list 1, then:
            - create an 'ID2' textbox control somewhere (hide it if you want)
            - on onSelect for list 1 put: {dialog.object}.setValueFrom('ID2',this.selectionData[0].theListFieldThatYouWant);
            - configure your :argIDforList2 to get the value from 'ID2'

              Re: List Control In Different Panel Card

              Got it working. However, the first time I select an item in List 1 and then it pulls up list 2 the items that are suppose to be filtered do not show up. If I go back to list 1 again and click on the same item again then when it pulls up list 2 the filtered items show up. Almost seems like it is not set exactly on the first click. Is there something I can do to get the filtered items in list 2 to show up the first time? Maybe refresh before list 2 loads to make sure the filter items show up the first time?

                Did you try importing the example I posted above? I am not seeing that problem.

                  Re: List Control In Different Panel Card

                  I think you can do this better by having the second list have a hidden "search" panel card. Your second list must have it's "search" activated in the List Properties and you must assing the search fields to the fields on the hidden panelcard. When the user clicks on an item in list one, it then populates one of the search fields. After populating the search field you tell the 2nd list to refresh. I have found this to work better that setting arguments in many cases and works like a champ.

                    Re: List Control In Different Panel Card

                    Actually, in list 1 in on click event I do {dialog.object}.refreshListData('LIST2'); and now it shows up first time.
