Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Zipcode Lookup broken??

Appears the action javascript 'City, State Lookup from Zip Code' is broken. Build 4770-5018 web app.

No errors in browser console. Maybe USPS recently changed their method.

Anyone use this method? Can you confirm before I send in a bug report?

Here's a test component if you want...

    Re: Zipcode Lookup broken??

Confirmed. The button, when changed to Text mode, produces this javascript:

    {dialog.Object}.ajaxCallback('',1,'CityStateLookup','','__zipfield=Zip&__cityfield=City&__statefield=State&__part=O&_rowNumber=1&__cityCase=Proper');

But nowhere is the CityStateLookup callback defined.

I'd report it as a bug.

Still seems broken to me. I am using the latest Build: 4770_5018

I would guess that the usps change happened before or after 4770... but that the Alpha fix was just recently introduced. The fix for this issue couldn't be in 4770 unless a specific fix for this issue for 4770 was released.

David is correct, the USPS change was after 4770 was released. You will need use a prerelease from March 21 or later in order to get the fixed code.

Thanks Lenny. Is there a projected date for when the actual (not pre-) release will be?

I have never used a pre-release version - is it safe to use that in production, or should I wait for the actual release?

I would wait for an official release but even that isn't a guarantee that something else isn't broken that slipped through. Some people use and have success with pre-releases. It's really a use at your own risk decision.

If you do use a pre-release I would backup your development environment before updating to it. My personal preference is to use official updates only and even then I wait 2-3 weeks after a release to see what the forum brings up about it (if anything) and if a patch to the update is released.

I'd ask for a 4770 patch. It's not Alpha's problem that it's broken... but Alpha could easily provide a 4770 based patch to fix it.

                    Re: Zipcode Lookup broken??

Depending on your application, you may find it better to actually incorporate a zip code database directly. You can purchase them relatively cheap and they have data that allows you to do things the built in process doesn't (such as surrounding zips). If you do it that way, you aren't limited to any outside functionality which could break. Just a thought.

Thanks for all the input. All good suggestions!

For now, I think I will wait for the actual release though ...
