Re: Import Datetime to ms sql
Thanks to all. Feeling my way along with SQL.
Gregg, was the speed improvement just by removing the line continuation character? Amazing that would make > 30% savings! I went ahead and added calc fields to the table. Then CSV export of the 780K records took 45 sec. And Bulk Import to mssql took 14 sec. So that seems to be the way to go. The production backend will be staying on DBF desktop for a while as the new customer web portal is developed. Web will get refreshed multiple times a day during transition, so speed is important.
Rich, I do have SSIC as a part of SQLExpress 17. (We are seeing how far this will take us.) I could not find the Shared Features section. Could this affect the CSV format output for time fields in Alpha? I will need to create calc fields for both time and logical fields to get the right format for sql import.
Unrelated question, but you guys may know. It seems I can have multiple 10GB databases in one instance of sqlexpress.
1.10GB is the per-database, data-file size limit
2.If you have more than one data file in your SQL Express database, the size limit is applied to the total size across all such data files
3.Log files are not subject to this limit
I will have 7 identical databases that, altogether, would be > 10 GB. I think I am OK unless I get corrected. Ultimately we will move to a hosted web license, but development will start locally.
Bill.
