Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Just popped into message board and found the added posts here. Did not get an email about these. ANYWAY, thanks so much for the info. The Fill Container was an excellent pointer, Bruce! And, Frank, I couldn't have done this without your nudges.

Re: Google map in a panel

I took things a bit further and I agree that the new interface is extremely intuitive.

What I did was insert a container with static text "GOOGLE MAP" just above the [map1] component and set the sub-type of the container to PANELHEADER.

My UX looks like this for the second panel card section containing the map:

        Code:
        ...
        [Panel Card[PANELCARD_2]
        [PanelHeader[Container_1]
          [StaticText:Google Map]
        [PanelHeader_End[Container_1]
        map1
        [Panel Card End[PANELCARD_2]]
Now you get a map that fills the screen in either orientation and still have a header that you can use to swipe back to the previous panel. I'd upload a graphic but the message board seems to be struggling with allowing uploads at the present time.

I added the code for swipe at Panelcard_2 and also tried at Navigator, Panelcard_1
but does not take me back!

Now that attachment uploading is fixed, here's the changes I made to the carol_test in order to allow swiping back to the list from the map panel.

Here's the updated component file which allows swiping to and from the full map screen. Special thanks to Alpha for adding the "fill container" option for maps!

Re: Google map in a panel

If I might chip in here, I am sitting with the same scenario. I would like to populate a google map with longitude and latitude from a table. I am new to Alpha and I have gone straight to using ux controls for all my lists and details views. I have now created a panelcard where the google map is located.
My problem now is that how do I get the markers onto the map from the mssql table, and how do I put my present location onto the map as this will be running on a mobile device.
All the videos show grids with alternate views. Is there a video that shows a UX example?

                Any pointers...appreciated

                Regards

Add a button, look in the onclick event for javascript actions related to maps, that should get you started.

                    Thanks Charles,

Got it going set up data series etc. Record set only returns 30 records but when I click the button I get an error "Message from Webpage" - "Stack overflow at line: 47"
                    Any ideas?

Re: Google map in a panel

I can center the map to a lat long and place a marker there. That works fine.
But trying to add markers from a data series crashes with the stack overflow.
                      Is this a bug?...
