Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Calendar component??

Is the calendar component still dependent on $400+ 3rd party license from web2cal? Just want to make sure. The new Alpha website makes it sound like there is a more integrated "Alpha Anywhere" component, but when I go to videos, they are all the V11 stuff.

    Thanks in advance!!

    Re: Calendar component??

I have been extremely pleased with the useability and price point of Jim Coltz's calendar component (http://www.a5customsolutions.com/A5-...Connector.html).

      Re: Calendar component??

Yes I think Alpha should licence his component as from my testing of the two components Jim's as good, if not better than the $400+ one.
They should licence it from Jim and have it as an included module, Simple... No nasty surprises for poor developers thinking the 'A5 Calendar Control" is free.
This way Jim can get a revenue stream and spend even more time improving an outstanding component.
      A win, win.

I installed Jim's Calendar last weekend on My School Portal and it is an excellent product, very customisable and had fantastic support and help from Jim over the weekend when setting it up.

          Re: Calendar component??

All great responses and yes I also think Jims Calendar is great ... the original question though was about whether the Calendar component that came with Alpha Anywhere still needed a purchase of the third party calendar library from web2cal. Looks like the answer is ... Yes.

          Thanks all for your input!!

Sorry I took the post away from the original question, Glenn. I didn't know the answer for sure but hadn't seen any reason to think the situation had changed.

Web2Cal has dropped price and the license is now only 250$.

We have listened to the complaints and have reduced price considerably. You will also be eligible for a free upgrade to the combined version of desktop and mobile friendly calendar when it is integrated with AlphaSoftware

I have to say that I haven't looked at Web2Cal for some time as I remember it being very expensive. Seeing the price drop, I thought I'd take another look and, at cursory glance, it is a beautiful looking product and the demo shows a real high-end polish and functionality.

The website does not reflect the lower price ... am I missing something? http://www.web2cal.com/ajaxeventscal...eb2cal-pricing

I ended up going with Jim's calendar as it was significantly less expensive at that time. It may not have quite the glitz but it's worked beautifully for me

                            Re: Calendar component??

be careful with web2cal, some of the surprises I ran into were that alpha does not support the web2cal recurring event model and some of the web2cal calendar views (resource view I believe) were also not available. These are basic features that are not mentioned anywhere by alpha as not supported until you try to use them.

Alpha suggested I submit a request for a price estimate from their custom programming people to get recurring events working, I then bought Jim's calendar instead. very happy with that.
