Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: My Questions about deploy Alpha Anywhere and Publish web files.

It looks like you're publishing to the local webroot: that is a folder on your development machine served by the appserver that is part of your developer copy. you have to browse to it using this url: http://localhost/index.a5w if index.a5w is your startpage. It looks as if you do not have created an index.a5w page ? Just publishing components won't do anything; your web browser looks for (html aka a5w) pages that it can display. So you need to put your components on an a5w page. Publishing to a remote appserver requires you to create a publishing profile for that appserver so that your developer copy can for example FTP all the files to that server etc. The sever that runs your appserver needs to run an FTP server in that case (like filezilla server) I'd first learn how to publish to the localhost then take your next step in learning this great product. Check out the 2 books Martin heller wrote: A5V10 webapp tutorial v1 & 2, written for v10 but still valid. If you cannot find the books contact AlphaSoftware.

      Here is my wondering lists,
      (1) After published component to server how should i do next?
      (2) As you said, Just publishing components won't do anything; your web browser looks for (html aka a5w) pages that it can display. <--Sorry,I don't understand :p //
      (3) I saw some file name same as my project in A5Webroot folder. But don't know how to use it. Sorry, I'm a new beginner.

Re: My Questions about deploy Alpha Anywhere and Publish web files.

You have to create your index.a5w inside of Alpha, not using notepad*. Then after creating index.a5w, open that page in Alpha and click the Insert Component button, find and select your component. Then publish the index.a5w to your localhost or server. But you really need to review the documents that Frank pointed out, or any of the introduction videos on Alpha's website.

Re: My Questions about deploy Alpha Anywhere and Publish web files.

          hello

          here is the scoop:
you create grids or dialogs using your developer. they are not available for any one to see except when you preview them in your preview tab. in order to see them via a browser you need to place them in a page like html. a html page with the grid or dialog or any other component is called a5w page. a5w page is understood by the a5 web application server and it translates the page to html page and renders in your browser. after you create the components and insert them into a a5w page then you can publish to local webroot that you can access via localhost/your site name/componentpage.a5w
or create a profile and publish to remote server then you use your browser to access www.your_site_name.com/componentpage.a5w
          this is the simplest explanation.
you can also check out my blog that i recently started to explain this whole process building and deploying at

Nattapong (hope this is your first name)

You forgot the important part; the named AlphaDAO connection strings. Your project uses a named connection string to connect to your sql server. When you publish your project to an appserver, the sql server may have a different name, password etc. It could even be a total different kind of sql server. So for each profile you have to edit the named connection string and I'm reasonably sure that that is your problem.

Take a look at my screenshots. In this project I have 4 publishing profiles, notice how the named connection string is the same ('Nexcoweb') but the definition is different for the profile Animals & the profile VPS-staging (On the Animals server my SQL server's name is SQLEXPRESS, on my VPS it is called 'NEXCO'. So the profile takes care at the time of publishing to 'translate' your configuration to the correct situation on the remote side.

I will be offline for the 4 days but I guess you'll be able to figure things out from here.
