Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

list data in the OnListDraw event

So I have figured out how to get at the data that will be used for drawing a list but my question is how can I use this data to populate a repeating section with it which will then be bound to a table? Below is my process of what I want to accomplish

    1) This list is populated with users (and the return value for the list is the ID which I will use later when a users selects names from the list)
    2) When the list is drawn I want to pull out all of the ids and populate a repeating section with them
    3) By doing so I can then use the data that is generated when the user selects multiple names in the list to check it against all values in the repeating section (my reasoning for doing this is I am setting up an attendance functionality of my app and want to be able to capture who attended a meeting and who didn't)
    4) I have this last part set up to happen when the user submits the dialog but this is only useful if the entire list of IDs is populated within the repeating section so I can just go through the rows and update a user's status

My other thought was to bind a second repeating section to a table that houses the IDs and have this auto populated when the dialog is opened but the problem is I'd need to be able to have to <Top Level> tables because there isn't a linkable field from me 'meetings' table to my 'users' table. so is a second top level table a possibility?

    Thanks!

So... you want to display a list of users. Select multiple users... those in attendance... and save those attending users. Is that what you want to do?

Do you really need the repeating section? What about selecting multiple users from the List and clicking a submit button to save those selected users as users who attended. Those who didn't attend could also be saved because they are the items that are not selected.

Is there another reason you want / need the repeating section?

Re: list data in the OnListDraw event

      Here is my thought process...

The repeating section is there because it is tied to a table where each user that attended the meeting goes into its own row with the meeting_id and user_id as a dual primary key, can this be done by just binding the list control to the table?

Also how do you get access to the un-selected items in a list, do they get put into an array as well?

Re: list data in the OnListDraw event

No... unselected items aren't arrayed (is that a verb)?

Here's one way to do it. Display your List (based on a SQL Statement... right?). You select your multiple Items... and click a Defined control Submit button. The Server-side event afterDialogValidate fires and in this event you have your selected items in the e object.

Now, go and execute a SQL Statement to get the same records as in your list.
Run a loop through the full list comparing the keys to the Selected Items.
Now you have a list of keys that did not attend and a list of keys that did attend.
Save both sets of data to your tables.

There are some great list processing functions available in XBasic like word_exists and word_remove.

Re: list data in the OnListDraw event

I am all for doing this in xBasic the only issue is I am not proficient in that language. I always see references to the e object but my question is how do I reference the list data in the e object if the variable name of my list is attendees? Would I dim an array variable to put the say e.attendees data into and then I could reference the array by index? Or can i reference e.attendees[2] (again I'm just guessing with the naming convention)? If you could point me into the right direction or just a short example script of getting at the values I can do all of the logic and looping. Thanks for the help!!

"Error executing SQL Refresh after Insert"

Above is the error I am getting when I am doing all of this using javascript. I have googled the error to see if I can come up with why it might be occurring or when this refresh is happening (and for that matter what is being refreshed) but I can't figure it out for the life of me. Anyone here have any ideas?

I'll put together an example for you and post it a bit later.

Here's a video and a component that may help.

                http://youtu.be/-7WyYcaH4VM

There are probably a number of ways you could get this done... so this is just one way... and you get to dig into XBasic... so all's good.

The component won't run for you unless you create the SQL Tables and change/create a named connected... but the code is all in there.

I'm putting both Attended and Not Attended into one table, but they could just as easily go into two.
