Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Change web user from an group to another

    Hello,
    I made a user self registration on my web site. First I let the user to select the group to which he belonged but then I thought it's not a good idea. Now the default group is "Users". How can I change the user from "Users" group to another? Is there any security function can do this?

    Thanks,
    Catalin

    I tryied to make a function to save the new group for a user. It's seems like working but it's not reflect on the framework. Where is the problem? What I am doing wrong?
    Thanks

    FUNCTION ChangeUserGroup AS L (userId AS C, newGroup AS C)
    dim uservalue.groups as c
    dim uservalue.guid as c
    dim output as p
    dim output.controls as p
    dim output.controls.guid.value as c
    dim result as p
    dim error_message as c

    dim uservalue.userid as c
    dim uservalue.email as c
    dim request as p

    debug(1)
    uservalue.guid = A5WS_Get_GUID_From_User(userId, request)
    uservalue.groups = newGroup
    uservalue.userid = userId
    uservalue.email = userId

    result = a5ws_Save_WebUser_Values(output,uservalue)
    if result.errors = .T. then
    error_message = result.error_text
    LogA5(error_message)
    ChangeUserGroup = .f.
    end
    end if
    ChangeUserGroup = .t.
    END FUNCTION

      I'm still waiting an answer. I read again the documentation http://wiki.alphasoftware.com/~alpha...alues+Function and I think I did the same. The groups are valid.
      Thanks

        Re: Change web user from an group to another

        are you using a dialog built with edit security user template?
        if you have an administrator menu and there if you have a grid displaying all the users and you can place a button to call to edit the security user and assign new group.
        is that not possible?
        thanks for reading

          Re: Change web user from an group to another

          It is possible but I don't like the default security dialog. Finally I made another function to assign the groups. It's the first time when I work with dfb and I don't know if it is ok.

          function public A5WS_Assign_WebUser_to_Groups(_guid_utilizator, _lista_guid_grupuri)
          debug(1)
          dim grup as c = ""
          dim websecurity_members as p = table.open("[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\websecurity_members")
          websecurity_members.delete_range("alltrim(user_guid) = alltrim('"+ _guid_utilizator +"')")
          dim num_ids as N = w_count(_lista_guid_grupuri, ";")
          dim q as n
          for q = 1 to num_ids
          websecurity_members.enter_begin()
          websecurity_members.user_guid = _guid_utilizator
          grup = word(_lista_guid_grupuri, q, ";")
          websecurity_members.group_guid = A5WS_Get_GUID_From_Group(grup)
          websecurity_members.enter_end()
          next q
          websecurity_members.close()
          end function

            By the way, is there any way to personalize the dialog? Translate it to another language,etc?

              The solution is to use request.

              result = a5ws_Save_WebUser_Values(output, uservalue, request)
