Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

How can I improve UX load time

I have a UX component with five panel layouts. Each panel layout has three panels. The UX takes about 8 seconds to load (load times are about the same for localhost or my server). At first I thought the issue was with list controls or server side initialize events so I removed all the list controls and commented out the oninitialize xbasic. the result was a gain of about 1 second. I then started to eliminate panel layouts. I finally got to two panel layouts which gave me a load time of about 2 seconds or less. I then also tried computing the HTML at design time as per the check box in properties, this however resulted in a code error.

Short of designing a UX for each panel layout are there other options for improving load times?

    Thanks,
    Tom

Update.... so I removed the use of security groups as a show hide from one button and turned on compute HTML at design time which then worked. The result is a load time of under 3 seconds.

For the List controls I usually set the Property Delay render till visible.

I'm sure you've seen this video http://www.ajaxvideotutorials.com/V1...tSideEvent.swf. I don't think I've seen any other properties to help in this case. As you've mentioned, next I would build UX components and embed them. Once your using embedded components you can use their Delay render till visible property so that now only your Parent controls will render when the app is first loaded.

I first thought the list controls were the issue but there was really no change once I removed them. I am utilizing the Delay till visible property. It seems one panel in particular with a window element seemed to slow the render. But, since I removed the use of security on one button (change it to client side show hide) and did the compute HTML at design time I now have acceptable performance with five panel layouts. The down side I noticed on embeded UX is that there is a delay of a few seconds when it loads the called UX. I prefer the initial delay and better performance once loaded.

I don't understand the delay either. My app is made from 6 components and I delay render until visible on each of the child components. I have always felt that the load time for each component was very sluggish, even when using static dummy data. I have been told by an Alpha employee on a couple of occasions that there must be something wrong with my component design and it should not take 3 seconds or more to render a UX component. A similar list control running in their demo app takes well under 1 second to render. I'm not doing anything out of the ordinary. I'm just creating the same kind of components and controls you see Selwyn use in his videos. I have tested simple UX components with a handful of controls or a list with very little static data and it takes at least 3 seconds for them to render. I get the same results running on a very fast dual-Xeon server and on a very fast core-i7 980x workstation.

Re: How can I improve UX load time

I came to realize that on my test UX
i have multiple LIST properties all set to delay render until visible,

so here we goes, after login done, i get to see my pane that show
menu with buttons, do not forget i have not pressed any button or set
to activate on some of those panels that contained LIST properties.

Hmm.... I turned off WIFI and set my iphone into airplane mode.

I continue run my UX and activate of some of those panel...
well I infact see my LIST properties loaded with DATA....

This explained why my UX so damn slow, as it populated everything...
After further investigation, I place my MENU-PANE which was on the very top
to being the last on the Pane position.

I actually solved one of my problem yesterday and now guaranteed
my UX is truly not loaded on initial run.

so when I set to activate something after login success.
it fly by some of the pane(s) virtually.

That I think being considered "render"

Anyone else has this experience ?

When I have time this week,
I like to construct a mini version to prove my point

But turned off your WIFI to proof it !!!
