Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Signature control state not resetting

    I have a signature ctl on a UX. The UX is embedded in a parent UX. When the UX containing the signature ctl is first loaded the signature ctl is in sign mode and ready to have a signature entered. Once the sig is entered the Accept button is pressed to accept the signature and then the UX is submitted to save the signature to my db... so far so good.

    However, on subsequent openings of the UX the sig ctl is not ready to be signed, the Sign button needs to be pressed first. It is as if the UX is remembering the last state of the signature ctl. The after submit function is set to Enter another record so I'm at a loss to explain why the signature ctl isn't in Sign mode whenever the UX is loaded. Any ideas?

    Cheers, Richard.

    Richard --

    Did you ever get this working? I'm running into the same problem on my mobile app, and it would sure be nice to know how to reset the state of the signature control in the UX panel upon re-entry.

      Richard (and anyone else that has run into this problem) --

      Hah! I figured it out. Put this code in the onClick event of your Menupanel/Menulist:

      {dialog.object}._functions._toggleCanvas('SIGNATURECAPTURE','canvas');
      {dialog.object}._functions._clearCanvas('SIGNATURECAPTURE');

      This will turn on the editable canvas and clear it for a UX control with variable name SIGNATURECAPTURE.

      How did I find this out? I opened the Xbasic code of the UX component and did some sleuthing. What a great resource the raw code is, especially when the actual documentation for many of these great components is lacking (or out and out non-existent) and one has to go hacking. (But then again, the sorry, sorry state of written A5/AA documentation has been my pet peeve for a long time <insert a sad face emoticon here>)

          Thanks Pertti, that totally helped me!

          I had to re-create those default signature buttons so I could then add some extra code after their default actions (e.g. save data back to the database upon clicking Accept)

          Amazing looking through the "complete" Xbasic code when you click that bottom tab across from Settings to XBasic

              Does anyone know how to make the background of the sig capture transparent instead of grey?

                Re: Signature control state not resetting

                You can change the signature control property "Signature capture area color" to change it from grey to something else.

                You could set it to the same back color as the page you are on and it would be similar effect as transparent.

                  Re: Signature control state not resetting

                  I did see that. I was wanting to see a line on the background image of the form so the signature was neater when signed rather than just signing in a grey box with no guide line to follow.

                  As you see here in the 'Absolute positions for controls' tool, you can see through the field that there is a line down there.

                  When it comes time to sign, the line is covered. Not a huge deal I guess, but it would look nicer if the signatures were actually ON the line. Sometimes they are above or below or up and down across the line.

                    Maybe you could use a background image for the signature control like this video
