Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Wait message when copying record in a repeating section

    Sometimes there is a delay while copying a record in a repeating section and I have been unable to get a message to show that says (copying record..) while the user waits.. and then hide once the copying is done. I want my users to know that a line is being copied and not to hit the copy button a 2nd time.

    I have tried check marking the following 4 actions to run synchronously (and not), but the message never appears. What do I need to do differently?

    Action 1:
    A5.msgBox.show('Copying Record','<div style=\'padding: 20px;\'>Copying record and checking for alerts. Please wait...</div>','none',function() {});

    Action 2: (the false is to disable the firing of OnChange events for fields in the new record, which happens if you don't set false)
    {dialog.Object}.duplicateRepeatingSectionRow('CONTAINER_1',false);

    Action 3: (this line is just because I don't want a copied record to be marked Yes for POST_BACKCHARGE if the original record has been marked Yes by user.)
    {dialog.Object}.setValue('POST_BACKCHARGE','No');

    Action 4:
    A5.msgBox.hide();

    If you were to delete action 4 then the message should remain displayed. I'd try that & also see what Firebug says in it's console.

      Thanks, Frank, but I want the message to go away once the record has been copied. I don't want user to have to make it go away.

        I understand that but it would allow you to see IF the message does popup at all...

          Re: Wait message when copying record in a repeating section

          I should mention that I have also tried putting the wait message in the client side event: CanRptSectionRowAdd
          and then the hide message code in the client side events: AfterRptSectionRowAdd

          That didn't work either...

            Again,
            It may display & get hidden so fast that you think it does not display. Only way to find out is to temporarily not hide it... Wouldn't you agree ?

              Re: Wait message when copying record in a repeating section

              Frank, when I disable the Hide message code, yes, the message does pop up and, of course, just stays there. I had tried that before.

              What I do notice when I do that is that the Delay I'm talking about occurs BEFORE that message pops up... I was hoping the message box would be instant so the user would know there has been a reaction to them clicking the Copy button. I think that even though I'm check marking for the actions to run synchronously, they are all firing at once.

                Re: Wait message when copying record in a repeating section

                OR there is some other event happening by Alpha that is causing the delay before the first action?

                  OK that explains. Where in fact did you put the code to run the action ? In what event ? Just the onclick event of a button ?

                    Actually that was in onClick event of an image. I tried disabling action 1 and 4 and putting those in the client side events I mentioned above. Doing that did not change anything.

                      Here's a little video showing it in action. The code has been moved back to the OnClick event of my Copy image.

                        Did you try with a simple alert('test') in CanRptSectionRowAdd ? Could be that it just doesn't fire & that you discovered a bug ?

                          It does fire in CanRptSectionRowAdd because when I do as you suggested and leave out the Hide of the message in AfterRptSectionRowAdd, the message DOES come up and stay there. But there is a delay BEFORE the message comes up there, too.

                          In watching my video just now, I am wondering if the Bubble Help on that image is affecting the time somehow. I'm going to go get rid of the Bubble help and see what happens..

                            Seems like there's a lot of javascript to process. Was the video in Working preview ? That tends to be slow at times, never been able to pinpoint why. Publish the thing & run it in a browser. If you were doing that then try in Firefox or Chrome.
