Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Urgent!!! Reports does not "Update" or publish to was

On my development machine, the reports works great even when published to local was.

However, when published to my web server the report changes does not update / or the new report does not appear.

WHERE is this reports folder so I can "copy" it manually.

Grids, dialogs, everything else publishes fine and correctly. Its only the reports.

    Thanks in advance

Re: Urgent!!! Reports does not "Update" or publish to was

Hi! Look at this thread for a good explanation for the file types: http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...rt-definitions

I will say that I've had a ton of trouble getting label layouts to publish. They are supposed to be in the .ddd file for the table that the labels are based on, but publishing and copying those files didn't help. I even opened alpha anywhere in development on the server and could see the correct label layout was in the project! But it wouldn't show the revised layout when creating the labels in my application. I ended up restarting the WAS and, unbelievably, the labels were correct in the app. I hope this helps someone else who experiences the same problem.

I am not sure how you publish your work normally.
whenever a report is changed the workspace library needs to be republished.
the best way for me is to go to the main web project control panel and select the publish button there and publish all the files.
when the publish dialog comes up you will see the last line
        <library>
then you know all the reports were published too.
if you are doing this way already and the reports are not updating, then please ignore this.
        thanks for reading

If you are going to manually move the workspace library (contains the reports) look for these three files: NAME.alb, NAME.alx, Name.alm ...'Name' will be what you called your work space.

So, for clarification's sake, are you saying the report/label layouts are NOT located in the .ddd file? I haven't found a conclusive answer to this I guess.

I don't know what 'ddd' is, sorry ... after I'm finished testing my reports on my local server I use file zilla to upload the three files I spoke of to my WAS'. Works every time.

DDD files must only be associated with DBF tables which is what I'm using. I have had many problems getting those layouts to publish consistently and I'm wondering if it's because I need to make sure the DDD file and the ALB, ALX, and ALM files are published. I haven't found any clear documentation on this.

                  I see ... I've never used DBF's. I do everything in SQL.

If you are using dbf tables the reports are in the data dictionary files for the table. These are the .ddd, .ddm, .ddx files. All three must be published or copied. If a report is based on a set, then all of the set files (.set, .sex, .sem) must be published or copied as a group
