Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    It appears that the new javascript library is not included with the new Alpha Anywhere update or full install. How can we download the new javascript libraries?

      Hi Kerry,

      are you able to get this feature to work.
      I downloaded the sample UX and have tested working well.

      Although I found it not too responsive in both dragging & dropping
      hopefully there will be future update with difference experience.

              Re: UX List Drag and Drop

              So I am curious if there is a way to change a value of one of the elements with in the data {} object that is being moved, i.e. if you move something from a main list to list one, some how changing the a list_id value to 1 so that when you save the entire dialog (including saving all of the list data for each list) and come back it will know to populate list1 with the data in the table that has list_id = 1 and list2 with the data in the same table that has list_id = 2 and so forth. Or is the only way to accomplish this to have each list tied to its own table in the mysql data base so that the dialog will know to save each lists data into its own table? Thanks!

                Re: UX List Drag and Drop

                You could use localstorage but this only works for the machine that did the original dragging.

                Say it was a todo list that applied to the person working on that machine then local storage works.

                However if the server needs to know, Hotel booking or duty roster then you need to save it back to the database.

                  If I need to insert X many rows to a database table based on the items in the list, how can I accomplish that? Do I need to do via XBasic?

                    Re: UX List Drag and Drop

                    Yes you will need to use xbasic to either

                    1) loop through the list items and insert the necessary values from each row (I went this route)
                    2) if you were only looking at sending back a single value from each row in the list I know someone built an array and passed it back to a stored procedure to do the insert (not sure if this would work for multiple values in each row)

                      Josh,

                      Do you know any videos or sample application that I can study how to do this with xbasic?

                        Re: UX List Drag and Drop

                        The first function is javascript and is what initially is used to grab the raw data of the list (in my case "list1"). Create a button with an ajax callback and in the property that says "additional data to submit" is where you will put the javascript function getDataOne(). The second bit of code is the xbasic function used to go through the passed in "__listData" and grab the values into sql arguments to that you can execute an sql statement and send the data to your database. You loop through the "p" variable that is an object and you can get to every value of each row in the list that is submitted back to the server. Hopefully you are able to dissect my code and reverse engineer it for you particular use.

                        Code:
                                function getDataOne() {
                        	var lobj = {dialog.object}.getControl('list1');
                        	var _d = lobj._rData;
                        	var _data = JSON.stringify(_d);
                        	var returnData = A5.ajax.buildURLParam('__listData',_data)
                        	return returnData;
                        }

                        Code:
                        function xb as c (e as p)

                                dim listData as c
                        	listData = e.__listData
