Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

How to add 'different' security just for one component in my project

    Hi
I have a 'classic' project with a tabbedUI menu and web security in place, working great. When pointing to my published url, people go to the Login component, then to the tabbedUI.
Now i would like to give access to external users ( they are all defined in one security group called 'Agents' ) to just one 'independent' component, ie not going through the tabbedui menu.
So i created a a5w page that has this component in it, and set security for this page and the component to security group 'Agents' only.
When going to that url, i get the login, and after entering a correct Agent login information, the system goes back to the login page. Suspecting it was just trying to take me to the tabbedui, after a succesful login i opened the Agent url in a different tab and it works.
How can i do what i want in this scenario?

    TIA
    Jaime

Can we assume that you've set security access for Agents for the component, the a5w page, and any redirect page(s) used after a successful login?

That's the issue, where do i define that redirect page after a succesful login? I thought that if i try to go straight to x.a5w after the login it would redirect me there...

It's in Web Security > Web Security Configuration.

I know i have it setup correctly for the whole project, which redirects to the tabbedui...
This means what i suspected, which is that i need to create a whole new project and enter there just that specific component and it's login page...

No. Either 1) Go to Web Security > Web Security Configuration and change the Login redirect option to "Page assigned by user profile" and then set the redirect page for the folks with Agent access permissions accordingly; or 2) Have the login send everyone to a redirect.a5w page, and using XBasic on that page use a5ws_ functions to determine what group the user's in and do a response.redirect() to send them to the correct a5w page based on their access.

Ok, went with the option of "Page assigned by user profile", which leads to a different but related issue now: how do i set that page when creating users inside the app? Now my system creates the user and automatically sets it's group, how do i set the redirect page for him as well?

Never mind, went rather the xBasic way you suggested, works great! Plus, i already had some xBasic code block that runs after successful login so i can save user data to session vars so was really easy to adapt.

Thank you very much for your help!
