Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Accessing argument in Javascript.

    I have an argument defined as my_a_id on my UX component properties which is set at run time and has a default value of 'abcd', how do can I access it in Javascript.
    I tried 1 and 2 below does not work.
    1) var v1 = AppVar.my_a_id;
    2) var v1 = {dialog.object}.getValue(':my_a_id');
    {dialog.object}.setValue('textbox1', v1);
    Thanks!

    Re: Accessing argument in Javascript.

    I was able to get the argument from Ajax call.

    function serverside_3a347c83b9f54982b655646465444 as c (e as p)
    dim args2 as sql::arguments
    args2.xml = e.arguments.XML
    dim my_a_id_temporary as c
    my_a_id_temporary = args2.find("my_a_id").data
    serverside_3a347c83b9f54982b655646465444 = "{dialog.object}.setValue('textbox1','" + my_a_id_temporary + "');";
    end function

    or simply as
    function serverside_3a347c83b9f54982b655646465444 as c (e as p)
    dim args2 as sql::arguments
    args2.xml = e.arguments.XML
    serverside_3a347c83b9f54982b655646465444 = "{dialog.object}.setValue('textbox1','" + args2.find("my_a_id").data + "');";
    end function

      Re: Accessing argument in Javascript.

      Do you know how to access the argument from the javascript directly? It is coming from the e. variables as seen above in the AJAX- therefore I assume that the client is sending it to the AJAX call on server.
      If it is already there on the client (local) - I wish to avoid the round trip to the sever with the AJAX call as shown above.
      Help!

        Re: Accessing argument in Javascript.

        Can you not set it to a hidden field when your UX loads? Then it's accessible without another callback. Or you could set it to a session variable at that time and publish it.

          Thanks A H for the couple of options!

            Re: Accessing argument in Javascript.

            AA puts the Arguments it receives for a UX into the stateInfo object for the called UX's (I don't know if this requires a particular build or not; I am on B2040).

            For example, if "ARG1" is passed by a Grid or UX that calls a UX then in the called UX's client-side "onRenderComplete" event you can write something like:

            var x = {dialog.object}.stateInfo['__args_C_ARG1'];
            $('FLD1').innerHTML = x;

            "__args_" is a constant prefix. The "C_" means character data (I assume "N_" for numeric, "D" for date). The "ARG1" is the name of the argument. The second line in the code above sets the value of a control, declared like <span id="FLD1"></span>, in the free form edit region to the value of the passed parameter.

            It baffles me why the UX does not have the same method call as a grid. In a called grid the equivalent code is:

            var tx = {grid.Object}.argumentValue('ARG1');
            $('FLD1').innerHTML = tx;

            Maybe I have overlooked something, but I cannot find a function called ".argumentValue" in the UX.

              Rich,
              Awesome! I am now able to access the arguments directly in javascript (avoiding the round trip to server using AJAX.)
              If the name of my argument is my_a_id then...
              alert({dialog.object}.stateInfo.__args_C_my_a_id);
              or
              {dialog.object}.setValue('textbox1',{dialog.object}.stateInfo.__args_C_my_a_id);

              Thank you so much!
