Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Report Lines Frames border

    Hello,

    I have something that is driving me nuts. I have a report that I need to make columns out and I can't get a frame, line or border on field to grow. I have attached a report to see what I'm talking about. I can do it easily in an html report but that is not a option. That report doesn't work with certain code.

    Any ideas?

    is this you wanted?

    put the line in the report and adjust the size to extend little further.

      Hello Govindan,

      Thanks. It works with just single line of data. But when I get a paragraph of data the lines don't grow. It's a memo field so there could be a lot of text.

      Thanks

          When I add this code inside a group I can't print or view pdf's. It also locks up the server where I have to restart it. I'm trying to just add text where there are more then 1 item in the group.

          if(count(Lpartnumber,GRP->Itemno,GRP->detail)>1,"(Above items assembled together)","")

            Interesting.

            Can you divide and conquer by changing the if condition?

            I'm wondering if it's the if() itself or the count().

            What does this do?

            if(.t.,"(Above items assembled together)","")

              Hello,

              Yes that works. Of course it puts the message on every line. :) With my code when I try to print to pdf in the developer I get a "Error 11000"

                That tells us that the count() is the issue. Where a function is used can determine if it'll work. Apparently count() doesn't work here.

                What else can you test on instead of using count()?

                Is there a field in the table that can be used?

                  something strange is the count() function works in the Header for the group but not the footer.

                  How else would I test to see if there is more then 1 item in a group?

                  Thanks Al

                    When debugging something like this, I show the value on the report to see what is actually there in each region. Then I can start figuring out what to do.

                    Once it's fixed, I hide the objects.

                    I have found that some things work better if a hidden object with a value is used.
