Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    json_parse error with latest update

    I am using the methods described below to move records from 1 list to another and submit the data.

    List Control - Methods - Populating List, Moving Data from One List to Another - Moving Rows Up and Down:
    The List control in the UX component is highly programmable. It has methods that allow you to add rows, insert rows, delete rows, move rows and reorder rows. In this video we give an extensive tour of some of the method available to you for programming the List control.

    After upgrading to the latest build (4284), I receive the following error and the xbasic function fails when parsing the list data (p = json_parse(listdata)).
    I downloaded the sample component and it also fails with the latest build.
    The sample component does work on a previous build.
    I have tried analyzing the components and rebuilding the list controls.

    Any thoughts?
    Thanks.

    There may have been an issue with that build. I just tried the sample component with the latest build - 2112 - and it's working great. BTW your reference to build 4284 is a reference to the "Addins" build... not the actual release (or Version) build.

      Sorry, you are correct, I am running build 2091_4284.
      When I check for a newer version, that is the latest that is shown.
      Where did you download build 2112?

        It's the pre-release build found here...

        There's a link to this page from the Help/View Release Notes page.

          Thanks David.

          I just received a response back from Selwyn on this.
          This is not a bug but the example component was missing some logic.
          They recently added more properties to the list object that also need to get converted before the json string can get parsed in this example.
          He already updated the sample component on the video page.

            I see it now... I did everything in the sample except hit submit.

              So it looks like my "p" variable has the right information in it but I'm not seeing my table being updated, is there something else I need to do in order to actually get the table to update?

                Re: json_parse error with latest update

                Josh, are you working from the sample component from the release notes? What table are you trying to update?
                I have modified the sample component and instead of returning the alert box, I call a stored procedure to store results in a table.
                Let me know what you are attempting to do and I will try to point you in the right direction.

                  Yes I have modified that component to be pulling data out of MySQL tables, I would be very interested in seeing how you implemented calling a stored procedure in the xbasic code! That could be a cleaner approach than looping through the data.

                    Re: json_parse error with latest update

                    I am simply using the list control to get a delimited list of IDs and then pass them into a stored procedure.
                    In my case, all of the processing logic occurs in the db.
                    At the end of the xbasic function, I emit javascript to refresh the list controls.

                    Code:
                    if eval_valid("p.size()") then
                    	dim v_sensorString as c = ""
                    	for i = 1 to p.size()
                    		v_String = v_String + p[i].sID +","
                    	next i
                    	v_String =strip_trailing_char(v_String,",")
                    else
                    	v_String ="deleteAll"
                    end if

                    sql ="execute sp_setGroupLink '"+v_String +"'"
                    cn.Execute(sql)
