Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    UX xbasic doesn't like ==

    == is valid xbasic.

    In the Code Editor:
    Code:
    ? "a" == "A"
    = .F.

    ? "A" == "A"
    = .T.
    But if I try that in an xbasic callback, she chokes.

    I need to do a case comparison. Guess I'll find another way.

    Works in a UX for me, in an ajax callback; when it's dimmed anyway.
    Code:
    function TestCase as c (e as p)

    dim jscmd as c

    dim t1 as c = "A"

    	if t1 == "a" then
    		jscmd = "alert('lowercase');"
    	else if t1 == "A" then
    		jscmd = "alert('uppercase');"
    	end if

    testCase = jscmd

    end function

      Dimming it gets rid of the error message, but it won't process my code in the UX

      = works, == doesn't.

        Can you give an example of what you're doing? In my example, changing this line: dim t1 as c = "A" to dim t1 as c = "a" will give the correct "lowercase" alert so it seems to be working just fine. This is being called by a button with an ajax callback inside the click event.

        Maybe there is something else in your code it doesn't like.

          Even though I'm not sure why the above doesn't work for you when it seems fine for me, here's more food for thought. You can test the ascii value to know if it's an upper or lower case letter.

          Code:
          function TestCase as c (e as p)
          dim jscmd as c
          dim txtcs as c
          dim fld as c = e.dataSubmitted.FIELD1

          dim tst as n = ASC(fld)

          if tst >= 97 .AND. tst <= 122 then
          	txtcs = "lowercase"
          	else if tst >= 65 .AND. tst <= 90 then
          	txtcs = "UPPERCASE"
          	else
          	txtcs = "Not a Letter"
          end if

          jscmd = "alert('"+txtcs+"');"

          TestCase = jscmd

          end function

              Solved it using alltrim(). Beginners mistake.

                So the actual code that you are using is not the example that you showed?

                Can you provide a before and after look for the next guy that finds this?

                  Here's the relevant code that does not work :
                  Code:
                  function xbLogin as c (e as p)
                  ...
                  If vPassword == vUserPwd .AND. vUserSerial = vMobSerial
                  ...
                  Here's the relevant code that does work :
                  Code:
                  function xbLogin as c (e as p)

                  If alltrim(vPassword) == alltrim(vUserPwd) .AND. vUserSerial = vMobSerial

                  Note: for reasons I will not get into here, this app requires customized login code and does not use Alpha security.

                    To confirm, it requires both the dim and the alltrim() to work, or merely the alltrim().

                      Hhmm... yesterday it requires both. Now I just removed the DIM and it still works - no errors. So I guess the dim is optional. Something else must have been going on when I got the error message w/o the dim. But I'll keep the dim on general principles.

                        Why?

                          In #1 I was demonstrating == vs =, just in case someone was unclear on the basic functionality. My problem was compounded because Alpha was giving me error messages in the UX doing the same thing. Today no error messages.
