Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    AA Server Licence Nightmare

I have reported this to Alpha and they went home without resolving it, leaving me and the client stranded, I hope one of you guys have a solution.
The server saying it's Expired we have 5 licences available to us and none of them will hold, every 15 minutes it goes to demo version in the browser and states it's unlicensed. This has just happened out of nowhere.
Its says it's active until next year, 15 minutes later - it's expired.
    Thanks Peter.

Update It is fortunate we use Zebrahost for our servers else we would have been stranded, they resolved the issue with their 24/7 support.

    Here is the outcome:

Assuming the instances were setup using our standard protocol instance 1 would be .50 instance 2 would be .51 I have bound them in this way.

I have only seen this with one other client but for some reason when Alpha updated last time to the version with the new sessions tab it corrupted the .xml config files which establish the 2 instances. This is why none of your bindings were showing and why your license would not activate properly.

I have recreated the .xml config files, bound the instances as mentioned above, and left the webroot on c:\a5webroot, and everything seems to be working at this point. If you had any changes to the various Alpha settings please log back on and reset them.

I had not previously reported this problem to Alpha because it seemed like such a fluke thing to have happen but Len please let me know if you need any information about it? Out of all the clients we have running multiple instances this has only happened to two at this point.
Spoke to soon down again.. Zebrahost are back on it.

    Pete,

I had the same issue yesterday, and the issue was the server clock. It had strayed more than the 5 minute limit from "true" internet time. Telltale is to look at the web application server configuration. It will say that the license is not activated.

So, reset the clock, activate the license. restart the web server and back in business.

Remember some of us had to get a "hotfix" for the app server to work when they started the new procedure? I think the hotfix must have expired yesterday.

We are working directly with Zebra and other affected customers on this issue to resolve it as quickly as possible.

Pat, the hotfix you are referring to was a minor UI update, has no expiration, and was fully incorporated into the regular releases. In your case at least, your clock has probably been slowly drifting and just yesterday had finally drifted by enough to cause your problem. I do not know yet if this is the problem with Peter's server or not.

Peter's server is now online. He was using an invalid license number so it could not run in a licensed mode. When not licensed, the server runs in a demo mode for a short while, then stops serving requests which is the designed behavior.

As you can see Lenny sorted this.

What happened, we delivered the correct Licence to ZebraHost for installation, the number was incorrectly installed at that time when set up by ZebraHost, the instances running needed the correct number - but keep in-mind this server ran since April 18th with the incorrect number, it wan't until the "D" Day arrived -the Server become unlicensed.

The lesson here is always check the Serial Number - and always have access to the instances on your desktop when the server is configured. When we did check for validation last week we got this message.

Peter, that error was fixed quite some time ago. Make sure you have the current patch installed.
