Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Automatic grid refresh

I have a grid. On the grid is a button that will open a UX component to edit the current record in the grid. When I submit the UX it closes automatically. I would like the grid to refresh itself also. Presently I have a button to manually refresh. I'm not quite sure how to go about doing this. After a forum search it seems I need to add something like {dialog.object}getparentobject() or something. I'm not really clear on where to put this.

    Re: Automatic grid refresh

when opening a dialog for editing or inserting from a grid the alpha team has given three options, first two work directly on the database, the third on the grid.
there is inconsistency in the first two dialogs
one will close but not update the grid the other will update but not close.
in order to do what you want you have to complete some extra steps.

here is a way to do, check it out if it is okay with you.
onClick event of the button that opens the dialog select the dialog that says edit the current record or add new record. the second one. ( I am sure that is what you have now)
now go to bottom and on the window javascript event select onBeforeHide or onHide and add the grid method
    {grid.object}.refresh();

Thank you, Gandhi. Unfortunately that didn't work out. I included screen shots below ... I tried both OnHide and OnBeforeHide.

        Hey Mike,

[Edit... sorry... I should have read your last post... you do say...]
You don't say how you're opening your UX... or if the UX is bound or unbound.

        However, both Action Javascript methods...

Open a UX component to Edit Current Record in Grid, or add a new Record
Open UX as an alternate editing view for current record

look after closing the UX and updating the Grid row. You don't have to specifically do anything.

There are property settings in each of these actions that look after stuff for you.

If you're not using either of these actions... how are you editing your grid record with your UX?

          Re: Automatic grid refresh

Instead of trying to fix my last post... I'll do another.

The action javascript you're using automatically handles updating the grid row for you.

I've run my grid/ux under build 2128 and later and the grid row is being updated.

Could you be more specific about the 3 options.

I'm not sure about your comment concerning "inconsistency".

Guys .... it is me that messed you up. I gave you wrong information about the issue. The grid does in fact update when a open, edit, close an existing record. Not sure where my head was ...

              Thank you both

Sorry to hijack this thread. I would like to know how do you manage a parent grid refresh from a linked UX (not firing from a button). I post this thread explaining more detail http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...d-UX-component
Will really appreciate help on this
