Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Repeating section of unbound UX

Going to be as thorough as possible here, just need to know if this is even possible..

I have a component that is bound to tables, what I am attempting to achieve is loading data from a record in the tables but then saving this data into the tables with a new primary key ID (which I am getting using some xbasic in the onDialogInitialize event). I obviously ran into a problem using the "populate controls for bound UX" as the text box that holds the primary key gets overwritten from the one in the tables. I then thought a genius idea might be to use the "populate controls of an unbound UX" just to get the values, but the issue is I need to go get a lot of values from multiple tables (which are all linked nicely together on the higher primary key). When I attempted this I immediately hit a road block as I knew I'd need to use the query method but when I try to actually bind the controls it pops up an alert saying "no table was selected", which seems strange has I had built the query...?

So, first I'm not sure if using the unbound javascript action will even work as I need to populate data in repeating sections, is this possible?

If not I am thinking about using the populate bound ux action and I will save the primary key I generate into a window variable so I can easily just replace the populated id, but I believe when I go to save this table I am going to need to do a check if data was loaded in as I believe the dialog will try to update the old entry into the table but just put in the new ID where I actually need it to do an insert statement so I was thinking if I checked for if data had been loaded (easy enough with a logical text box, set the value to one on the load data button click) then I could divert the usual save method to using the javascript action save method, but not sure all this work is necessary if I can populate repeating sections with the unbound method?

    Thanks for the help!

What is the requirement? A multi-part primary key? Please explain.

Single primary key for the main table, and this key is used to link to all other tables within the query I hope to use inside the populate unbound ux JavaScript action.

Why not just let the table handle the increment of the key?

That's not really what the issue is here, I'm setting the primary key myself using the auto increment function of MySQL. I am doing this as the dialog is very large and I've had issues where after the user closes the dialog without saving (doing a reset) and then try's to create a new entry in the table by re-opening the dialog I'd get an error because it would think the entry is a duplicate. But this has all been taken care of, the issue I am having now is loading information from my tables based on an ID in this main table (primary ID) but I'm not wanting to edit the previous entry I am wanting to create a new entry but use some of the data from the precious entry (this greatly cuts down the data entry necessary by the user).

I do this type of thing as well. There are several ways to handle it. You can pass args or session variables or get the ID of the Primary Key and grab the data from the table and load into the new table.
