Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Daily devotional mobile app

I am trying to build a daily devotional mobile app.
Basic fields are just the date and the devotionals.

I would like the first page to welcome the user and at the same time display a date search that will take the user to the main devotional for the particular day.
I would appreciate your specific help, suggestions and ideas in achieving this.

Please find attached d devotional page as done so far.

    Thanks.

Create an argument on the date set it equal to today.
Then filter the list on this date.
The list will then only display devotionals for today.

Let me know if this is not clear.

      Hello,

Thanks a lot Michael. I was able to implement that even b4 now. However, what about if the User needs to go to a particular date outside today(default)? Hence the need for the date search field? Does alpha have a mobile date search features ? (e.g.Scrollable components).

        OK

        There are 3 approaches.

A search area. The user types in a search date
Set up 2 panels. with a panel layout to bottom to top the top panel is shown or hidden based upon touching a button in the header. Put a date field in the header and then filter the list based upon this date.
List Control - Range Searches URL at bottom

A date list The user touches the date in another list
Set up 2 panels with a panel layout left to right again the button shows hides the list and this time the filter is the second list which is just dates.
Url at bottom search on this Using a List Control to Display Detail Information (in Field/Value Pairs) for a Record

Scrollable The list is set up so that you can quickly scroll through the whole list.
There is a video and down loadable component for this action.

Using the List Scroller to Move Through the Rows in a List (Search on this text) Last video

The choice is a combination of your data set and list size but I would suggest you use method I although method 3 would be good for content hidden in the main text.

          Re: Daily devotional mobile app

          Hello Michael,

Thanks a lot for your assistance.
I was experimenting based on the first approach.

I created the searchDate field in the header like you suggested and also attached this as an argument to filter the list.
However, i discovered that the list is just blank even after after the date has been selected.

My quick guess is that the value in the searchdate field as at the loading event for the list is blank and so nothing shows up.
I probably need to do sth like an ajax callback to the server so as to load the list based on the date selected.

How can I achieve this? Help plssssss!!!!

            Re: Daily devotional mobile app

            Hi

Don't give up on client side, just yet. Is the date in the same format as the search field and list?
How many values does the list have?
            Here is the syntax
            var show = {dialog.object}.getControl('Multilist')._data.length
            {dialog.Object}.setValue('Show',show )

I get the value of Multilist and then I display it in a field called show.

From your location and the nature of the app you are likely to have a high server load. This will eventually slow everything.

Here is how I filter a list with a second list

            var click = {dialog.Object}.listGetValue('ListFilter', 'OurName');
            {dialog.Object}.setValue('Filter',click )

Filter is my field in the header. I perform the filter on the on change event.

Here is the same filter server side
