Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Javascript not run in server

    Hi guys,

    I'm facing a problem with my application and need some help.
    I put a javascript in a button to change the value of a checkbox field "CL1" into true as below.

    {grid.object}.setValue('G','CL1',{grid.rowNumber},'1');
    {grid.Object}.submitGridPart();

    Somehow, it runs okay in working preview and localhost server, but when I publish it to live server, the SetValue() function is not run.

    Did I wrongly use the function and is there any alternative to do this? I'm desperately need a help..

    Thanks before in advanced.

    Re: Javascript not run in server

    You have grid.object (lower case O) in your setValue.

    JavaScript is case sensitive. Try that first.

      Thanks for your input Larry, but I have revised it and it still didn't work. =(

        Re: Javascript not run in server

        What type of server is it?

        add an alert('Hi'); to the script.

        Does the alert show? Maybe the script is right, but the button isn't firing for some reason.

        Without knowing much more about the setup, it's difficult to help. Can you give some more specifics about what you are trying to do, please?

        Larry

          JavaScript IS case sensitive. But {grid.object} is a placeholder value. Placeholder values are replaced by the published object variable/name/string/etc by Alpha when you publish the component. {grid.object}, {grid.Object}, {gRID.oBJECT}, etc --- these are all treated the same by Alpha's preprocessor and replaced accordingly. So, case doesn't matter in this situation.

          Is CL1 setup to be treated as a Logical field? I'm wondering if you should be using true/false instead of '1':

          Code:
          {grid.object}.setValue('G','CL1',{grid.rowNumber},true);
          Also, I'm wondering if you are getting any errors. Open the console window in your web browser and look for javascript errors (F12 in Chrome/IE/Safari - look for a Console tab; Install FireBug on FireFox & then F12 and look for a Console tab.) If there are other errors on the page, it can prevent your page from being fully loaded.

            Hi Sarah,

            Do you have any suggestions on how someone who wants to become a javascript ninja (as you seem to be) can accomplish such a feat? Are there any books you can recommend?

              Hi Larry,

              The server build is 1856-4237.

              As suggested, I've done some more test as below:

              alert('Hi before..');
              {grid.Object}.setValue('G','CLKPI1',{grid.rowNumber},1);
              alert('Hi after..');
              Both of the alerts was shown. So we're pretty sure that the SetValue() function is not run.

              I'm also try execute the SetValue direct to data Row 1 instead of using {grid.RowNumber} as below:
              {grid.Object}.setValue('G','CLKPI1',1,1);
              It still not success.

              But there's something strange happened, in my localhost server, the setValue() function runs.

                Hi sarah,

                Thanks a lot! it works using "true" instead of 1. =)
                The field is already logical, and the property treat as logical field is remain unchecked.

                  Josh,

                  You might want to check out the online video courses at Pluralsight.com. I've gone through several of their courses and they range from first time programmer to advanced techniques. The site has an all-you-can eat plan for $49 a month and you can cancel at any time. There's nothing like a hands-on multimedia approach in my opinion for learning something well.
