List Control Modern Frame

I am unable to get a list control to render when placed inside a modern frame with an initial state set to hidden.
That is, without executing client side logic.

In the attached example, the list in the first frame shows no data.
The list in the second frame shows data, but only because I am closing the frame when the ux is initialized.

I certainly don't mind taking this approach but it seems overkill.
Any thoughts?

This is a really good one. The list control actually does render.

The data is there in testList... you just can't see it. However, there doesn't seem to be anything in the html that is actually hiding the data. I guess something is in there... but I can't see it.

There is a simple approach to getting the data to display.

Comment out all the code you have in onInitializeComplete.

Create this javascript function...

function refreshTestList(){
	
	var listObj = {dialog.object}.getControl('testList');
	listObj.refresh();
	
}

And in the Frame onOpenFunction put this...

refreshTestList

It's not necessary to add (); to the end... doesn't hurt... but not needed.

Now... when the Frame is opened, the List is redrawn with the data it already has. It's all client side so it's all really fast.

Doesn't answer your question, but is very simple.

David, thanks for the reply.
It may not resolve the issue, but it is a much cleaner/faster workaround.

I attempted the same approach but used {dialog.object}.refreshListData('listName') instead of the object refresh method, without luck.
That validates your point that the data exists, it's just hidden.

I will report this as a bug.

this is not a bug.

if a columnar list control is initially hidden when the UX is initially rendered, and then is shown after the UX has been rendered, the List will only display correctly if its .refresh() method is called.

in many cases, alpha automatically generates the code to do the refresh (for example if the List is on Pane 2 of a tab control).

in the case of the frame control, the code to refresh the list is not automatically generated and it is up to you to refresh the list.
the frame has an onOpen Function property where you can call your refresh function which should have code like this

var lObj = {dialog.object}.getControl('your list name');
lObj.refresh();


note that only tabular lists need to be refreshed. free-form layouts do not need to be refreshed when they are made visible.
