Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Ajax callback in embedded html javscript

    Hi,
    Is it possible to make an ajax callback in a javascript embedded on html page?

    <script>
    var myVar;
    var cnt = 0;
    function MonitorizeazaUser()
    {
    {dialog.Object}.ajaxCallback('','','InregistreazaActivitate','','');
    myVar = setInterval(MonitorizeazaUser, 5000);
    }
    </script>

    <%a5
    function InregistreazaActivitate as c (e as p)
    InregistreazaActivitate = "alert('wauuuu');"
    end function
    %>

    Thanks.

    Re: Ajax callback in embedded html javscript

    Yes, but the example you show here assumes the presence of the dialog object, which of course you do not have. So, here's an example:

    Snippet from javascript:

    Code:
    		window.clearTimeout(SD);
    		A5.ajax.callback('A5Callback.a5w','__action=CtResp&count='+$gvs('click_counter'));
    		resetIt();
    		alert('Tally has been recorded.');
    You'll see this calls an a5W page, which then contains this:

    Code:
    	<%A5
    	....
    	if __action = "CtResp"
    		'__action=CtRep&observation_id=1&count=14
    		Observer_Recorder(session.observation_id, count)
    	end if
    	....
    	%>
    You can also envision from this that I have a single page -- named A5Callback.A5w -- to which I can refer all sorts of actions without having to rely on the presence of a dialog or grid component.

      Re: Ajax callback in embedded html javscript

      Nice solution, Steve. I've made a dialog where I defined the xbasic function. The ux was embedded in html page and thus I could make the callback. But, your solution it is simplest and elegant. Where do you get these functions? In my a5 help does not exists.

      Thanks.

        Re: Ajax callback in embedded html javscript

        Hi Steve,
        I have implemented your solution but I am not able to handle the callback.

        This code should set 'OK' value to a paragraph.
        <%a5
        dim ajaxResponse as c = "$svs('is_ok','OK');"
        ?ajaxResponse
        %>

        But instead of it show me text $svs('is_ok','OK'); on the page. I tried with an alert() and the same result.

        Thanks.

          Re: Ajax callback in embedded html javscript

          Hey Catalin,

          What you're showing is running javascript inside XBasic tags... and that's ok... but you need a bit more in order to let the page know that you're running javascript... and that's the <script> tags.

          ?ajaxResponse is pushing out text to the DOM... so it just displays it. Wrapping the "text" in script tags tells the browser what to do with that text. In this case the text is javascript... so...

          Code:
          <%a5
          dim ajaxResponse as c = "<script>$svs('is_ok','OK');</script>"
          ?ajaxResponse
          %>
          Should work... you'd think... but looking even further you see that you're using an Alpha Javascript Core.JS Library function... so without a bit more code the above will fail because $svs is an unknown function.

          Code:
          <%a5
          dim ajaxResponse as c = "<script>document.getElementById('is_ok').value='OK';</script>"
          ?ajaxResponse
          %>
          Will work.

          If you add...

          Code:
          <script type="text/Javascript" src="Javascript/core.js"></script>
          into the <head> section of your page... then $svs will work.

            Hi David,
            I followed this sample http://wiki.alphasoftware.com/~alpha...+in+Alpha+Five
            But now I understand. Your explanation does not doubt.
            Even so does not works. I show you what I do:

            Code:
            <script>
            var myVar;
            var timeout = 25 * 1000;
            var offset = 5 * 1000;
            var first_time = true;

            function MonitorizeazaUser()
            {
            	/*Prima data la intrarea in pagina face callback apoi doar dupa ce expira timeout-ul*/
            	if ((first_time) || (timeout <= 0))
            	{
            		first_time = false;
            		/*Executa callback-ul actual doar daca callback-ul anterior a raspuns punand is_ok=OK*/
            		if (document.getElementById("is_ok").innerHTML === 'OK')
            		{
            			timeout = 25 * 1000;
            			document.getElementById("is_ok").innerHTML = 'KO';
            			A5.ajax.callback("header.a5w","");
            		}
            	}
            	else
            	{
            		timeout -= offset;
            	}
            }

              I would like to know if it is possible to return a value from xbasic. Now I implemented another way to do that, but I would like to know.

              Thanks.
