Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

New List Control features and revamped video finder

As developers I know we often get caught up in grumbling about the things that aren't working the way they're supposed to so I just thought I'd throw a little love Alpha's way. The new features in Alpha Anywhere 3 (just released) for working with Detail Views on lists and list search parts are amazing! I've got a big project that I've been trying to work out the prototype on and these new features not only will help me prototype it but put me better than 75 percent of the way to finished before I write a single line of code.

I haven't even started to play with the disconnected options but I have several customers who have been clamouring for this feature as well so I can't wait to get started there.

If you haven't checked out the new Video finder that Alpha created, do yourself a favor and download the new version and give it a try. It's light years ahead of the old one and with a Refresh option the latest videos are always right there when you need them for reference help.

As someone who has been a hands-on tester of the upcoming IIS plugin I can say that it is looking solid as well and we're finally going to have that one single point of entry for all HTTP and HTTPs traffic on our servers. No more firewall and port forwarding issues to accommodate the Alpha server!

With the issues we've had lately with the licensing problems it's nice to be able to point out some of the real positive of being a subscriber and being able to take advantage of the new features as they become available. Keep up the good work Alpha (and let's get this licensing mess taken care of once and for all so we can all focus on creating great apps that we can be proud of and that our customers can rely on!)

Re: New List Control features and revamped video finder

Thanks for the update Brad. I can also say that I've worked with other RAD's in the past and Alpha and the Alpha community are the most generous. They don't seem to discount your question or make you feel stupid if you ask a dumb question. There are always going to be issues. Problems and failures make your programs better. It means that we are pushing the envelope and trying something new. I just converted several Grids to list controls. It hurt my brain, but I now have more control using a UX with a list control. I love the more control part. Alpha always seems to respond. My programs are better because of Alpha. I make more money because of Alpha. Keep up the good Alpha! Keep up the good work Alpha Community!

I would like to second Brad's comments here.
The new video finder is soooo much better, one feature I have been wanting for a very long time is that it can be made mode-less so I can drag it over to another screen and have it sitting over there to use, the simple little things in life are what can make all the difference.

      Thanks Alpha!
