Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Production Server won't work after installing Alpha Anywhere 3.0

Has anyone else had this issue? I updated the WAS to the new release (Version 3) and after rebooting the server, my site won't work. My WAS license is valid until December, 2015.

I have tried to do the app server update and the full install.same result.

I rolled back to the previous official release and my site works again.

      Mike,

After Selwyn joined that conversation and discussed the WAS license vs Developer 5 connection limit, I realized that the original topic was for a development server. My issue was with my production server. Was curious to see if others had a similar issue with a valid license that should work for the new version.

Are you getting any error message? Not sure if this is the same issue as you but I'm getting the following error in the A5XbasicErrorStackLog.txt file when I try and start in the new version.

        Thread: AppServerMain
        Script: TEMPLATE
        Line: 111
        if __hidden__was_license_is_activated(ServerSettings.Licenses)
Extra characters at end of expression
        Execution Stack:
        0#111 if __hidden__was_license_is_activated(ServerSettings.Licenses)

I'll let you know if I find out what it is about.

okay, so that previous error was due to having multiple licence keys stored in the config file. Fix by opening the sever config XML file and removing all but one.

Next I got a "error running server start-up script.", which seems to be to do with the "-CONFIGFILE" parameter when I removed this and placed my config file in the default location it worked.

Let me know if you are getting a different error and I can try and help.

            Mark,

I am not getting anything. I upgrade the server and restart it. When attempting to access my site via a browser, the browser hangs and the site never opens. Checking the server, there is no warning message or anything to indicate there is a problem…it is just DOA

If you experience a production down issue, PLEASE report it immediately to [email protected]. We do not always monitor this forum, but sending it to that email address will immediately put in in front of the eyes of all of development and management. Any issue that impacts a production system is our top priority and gets our full and immediate attention.

Including anyone that has already posted here, please send us an email now with a description of your problem and contact information so that we can work with you as soon as possible to resolve these problems.

Mark, based on the error message that you posted, we just fixed a bug when there are multiple licenses stored in the server's configuration file. We are now about to test with a specific -CONFIGFILE parameter and will attempt to identify that problem as well.

Greg, please make sure you have access, error and Xbasic stack logging enabled. Then attempt to start the server and please send us all the logs that are generated. Also review the Windows Application Event Log for entries from Alpha Anywhere and include those.

                Lenny,

Thank you for your assistance. The issue for me was multiple licenses entered once I removed the extra one, all worked as planned.

Re: Production Server won't work after installing Alpha Anywhere 3.0

We have fixed 2 bugs based on this thread. The fixes will be available in the next prerelease.

The first was a problem properly handling the license when multiple licenses were specified in the configuration file. As a work-around, you can manually edit the configuration file to make sure only one license is specified. Greg and Mark have already done this successfully.

The second was a problem starting the server if a specific configuration file was specified on the command line, but there was a problem reading the specified file. If the file is eaither not in the location specified, or the filesystem permissions prevent reading the file, the server would have failed to start with a generic error message of "Error running server start-up script." The exact error condition (file not found or file access denied) is now properly reported and logged to the Windows Application Event log.
