Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Static Label Question (Brain Cramp!)

I have a pretty simple monthly schedule grid, which shows all 31 days in the month, and has several rows to show the different squads in my police department. But I'm trying to put a label next to each row to identify which row is for which squad, and I can't figure out how to place static text to the left of the first row without it repeating next to every field.

The first picture below shows what it currently looks like, and the second picture shows what I want it to look like:

Rich, confirming, it is a grid and not repeating rows in a UX?

      Hi Chris,

Yes this is a simple grid, laid out in Form (Columnar) format.

An Absolute Container may be what you're after. Create a static text for each squad. Wrap them in an Absolute Container. Then go to "absolute position for controls" to place the text.

See screenshots below. Notice how there is no break on the absolute container. That will place it to the left of the container below it. Also, the static text isn't quite lined up but thats easily changed in the absolute container.

Hi Mike and thanks for the quick reply.

I had already created the static text labels, but I don't see the "absolute container" option in "Insert Special Functions" list. Am I missing something??

Oh shoot... this is a grid. I'm sorry. I missed that part. What I created above was in a UX.

Wrap them in a MergeCell Begin/End and give the Begin a Column Heading.

                    Thanks for the replies.

Mike: I tried FreeForm Layout, but the text still ends up repeating itself next to each field, unless I was doing something wrong.

Steve: I tried merging the cells, and although it placed the fields a lot closer to each other (which is something else I wanted to do), it did not display the heading. (see pic)

Maybe because I am using columnar layout?

Just thinking out loud here .... if you do a free form of your static text in one container and then have all of your grid controls in another container then I don't think the static text will duplicate itself on each column.

                            Hi Rich,

On the GRID properties section, look for Row Labels. You will see Suppress Repeated Row Labels. Check that.

I set Squad1, Squad2, etc. to a LEFT Row Label Position on the fields section.

                            See how that works.

Here is an example of outcome:

HOLY COW! That works like a champ!!

I don't think I ever noticed that option before, but it solved the problem with the check of a box. Thank You very much.

                              Update:
I just noticed that the first column of fillable fields has the data recurring data field above it shifted to the left, over top of the row labels.
I wonder if there is anything I can do to move it back to the center of the first column? (See pic)
