Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    UX List control selections as xbasic arguments - Need example

    I'm looking for an example on how to use selections made from a list as xbasic arguments. The user will make several selections in my list and then press a button. The button will then write some data to SQL using the selections made from the list as arguments.

    Looked on Alpha's YouTube channel but haven't found a video that fits.

    Thanks in advance!

    If that button happens to be the submit button, then all of the controls will be in e.datasubmitted.fieldname (use the dialogvalidate or afterdialoguevalidate event.

    That is probably what you want to use, because you can reset the dialogue when you are done.

    Otherwise, open up an xbasic function and put the default prototype in, it will show you all the ways to interact with the controls.

      You can get the basics of this done in 5 lines of code.

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vrckkQ3YpH4

      After you make your List selections, you say you click a button. On that button...

      Code:
      var lObj = {dialog.Object}.getControl('list');
      var listData = JSON.stringify(lObj.selectionData);
      {grid.Object}.ajaxCallback('G','{Grid.RowNumber}:all','listSelectedData','','__listData='+listData,{deviceOfflineFunction: function() {   }});
      Grab the List object, convert the selected data rows to JSON, pass it through in an ajax callback.

      The ajax callback...

      Code:
      function listSelectedData as c (e as p)
      'listSelectedData = "javascript commands to be executed in the Browser."

      dim listData as p

      listData = JSON_parse(e.__listData)

      end function
      Grab the __listData variable, parse the JSON to dot variable.

      Once the data is in a dot variable you can loop through it setting your SQL args. Shout if you're unsure on that part.

        Thank you both ... I'll take a look at all of this next week.

          Yeah ... this part I'm so too sure on. Below is the script I use to "auto sign" one form. It takes the signature in 'contacts' and inserts it into the current form (IDT_POC in this case) the user is working on. You see two UPDATes because at the time I created this script I couldn't figure out how to combine them both into one...lol.

          Anyways, now when a user clicks on this button (with your code above) it'll be performing the same function as my script BUT with all of the names selected in the list. Each name is an separate form.

          Was that too convoluted of a description?

          Code:
          function AutoSign1 as c (e as p)

          dim cn as sql::connection
          cn.Open("::Name::SQL") 'saved connection string
          dim args as sql::arguments

          args.set("arg1",(session.__protected__fullname))
          args.set("arg2",val(e._currentRowDataNew.ID))
          args.set("arg3",now())

          cn.Open("::Name::sql")

          cn.Execute("UPDATE IDT_POC SET IDT_POC.Hospice_Phys_Sig = (SELECT contact.Staff_Signature) FROM contact WHERE contact.CombinedName = :arg1 AND IDT_POC.ID = :arg2",args)

          cn.Execute("UPDATE IDT_POC SET Date_Time_Signed1 = :arg3 WHERE IDT_POC.ID = :arg2",args)

          cn.close()

          e._set.Dirty_Flag1.value = "1"

          AutoSign1="alert('The form has been signed and saved.');"

          end function

            Watching the JSON videos now from the current pre-release. I see how I can parse my list data and see the different rows of data (code below). Still unsure how to setup a loop using the list data.

            Code:
            function Physician_AutoSign as c (e as p)

            'listSelectedData = "javascript commands to be executed in the Browser."

            dim listData as p
            dim msg as c
            dim js as c

            listData = JSON_parse(e.__listData)
            msg = "Name is: " + listData[2].PatientName
            js = "alert('"+ js_escape(msg) + "');"
            Physician_AutoSign = js

            end function

                Maybe I'm missing something, but ... What about:

                I = 1
                totalrecords = "total number of list items"

                (note: I don't know how to get the total records off the top of my head, but there must be a method for it.)

                otherwise checking eval_valid(listData[I].PatientName) should work.

                while I < totalrecords

                do something with listData[I].PatientName

                I = I + 1

                end while
