Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Thanks for providing this information. I'm trying to create a sample grid to test it out.
    1. How do I know the alias name of my grid?
    2. What event do I put this code into? onKeyPress, onKeyDown, onKeyUp?
    3. Is it possible to know if the entire text of a cell is selected? That might be a way to know if the arrow should move 1 character or move to the adjacent field.
You put the functionality into the grid, no need to worry about alias
    Event "OnKeyUp"

The stackoverflow link explains this. I think I will use Ctrl side arrow and keep the standard side arrow functionality.

Sorry just read my reply, you do not mean alias you mean placeholder. Alpha provides you with that {grid.ComponentName} get this from placeholders

Your code suggests that I should replace "GRID1" with a placeholder. I have never used a placeholder before but I just now saw a hyperlink "Insert Placeholder" so I used that and picked {Grid.ComponentName} as you suggested. Last time I had tried searching for that and saw somewhere that was also called an alias. In Access this would be Me.Name or Form.Name. I changed your sample to:

var grid = {Grid.ComponentName}; // replace with placeholder

I put your code in the OnKeyUp event and when I press the left arrow I get a Script Error that says "'GRID1' is undefined". See attachments.

          Ben

I have sent you a working Grid. V10 video 60 explains the placeholders.

You have an Access database with the data.

You need to build the connection string.

I have used Crtl Left arrow as left arrows will be needed to navigate within the field. I have done a similar thing for ctrl right arrow.

I have only set it up in the phone field.

The picture shows you a grid we built to change Alpha's default styling.

          AlphaGrid Styling.png

          Here is the grid
          Access.zip

          Here is the database

          Grid_Arrows.rar

Just for a little fun have a look at the list control and the power it gives you.

          ListChart.zip

The possibilities in Alpha are endless.

            Michael,

I apologize for taking so long to get back to you. I have been swamped with Access development the past year and am now trying to catch up where I left off.

Thank you for sending the samples. The tight grid in your screen shot is what I'm aiming for. I am not able to get the samples to work as I expected.

The Access_Grid component will display in Working Preview, but user CTRL+LeftArrow generates an error as seen in the image below. I get a similar error when I click the Button. I am also not seeing the grid layout like in the sample screen image you sent earlier.

            9-13-2016 11-06-22 PM.png

The List_Chart gives an error in Working Preview:

            Maybe I'm missing a file??

If this is something you could demonstrate live please PM me and we can set up a short phone call with Skype.

I'll be at the DevCon as well. I'll look for you Monday evening and maybe you can show me the error of my ways.

Re: Grid Customization - Request for Examples

I discovered that the jQuery fiddle relies on the TabIndex attribute in each <td> in order to work in Chrome (IE 11 was ok). Does anyone know how to add the TabIndex attribute to each <td> produced by the Grid control?

Note that the attribute can be set statically as tabindex=0 and it doesn't need it to match the column number. I'm pretty sure that just having the attribute is enough for jQuery to work.
