Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

List Control - Get 2 images to be in same spot, 1 hidden, 1 not

I am finally beginning to play around with List Controls in my attempt to get more speed when loading data. I have 2 images (checkbox images) in my list control. They each have a show/hide expression based on a logical field in the list that means only one of them will display for each row. If you look at my screenshots, you will see that I am trying to figure out how to make them show up in the same spot so they do not look out of alignment. I think you can see in the screenshot how I have set up their template.

ALSO, I am using client side group headers and can't seem to figure out how to make them bold?

One more question... I think that there is not an onClick type of event for each field on a row, right? In my grid of the same data, every one of the numbers in the row has an onClick event that opens a related grid filtered to various values in the fields of the row. I am heading towards putting a little image icon to the right of each field in order to accomplish this (thus the magnifying glass you see to right of one of the fields...), but want to make sure that there isn't some way to click on the field instead... before I make all these images. Thanks.

      Hi

I don't have the knowledge to give a complete answer but took a quick look at this.

In the List Builder, List Layout tab - if the list is Column not Freeform there is a Property in the Column Properties: called Template. By default this has just the field name but any html can be placed here including an onclick event which then references a function to do what you need - see example attached.

Note: If you are also using the main onclick event for the row there could be some conflict here.

One thing I forgot. If you have set serverside groups the group template property seems to one place you can set to bold.

I should read things more carefully. Attached is for clientside groups

I'd be interested in your list/image line up issue too ... In my experience even though something is hidden it still takes up physical space on the page and as such the image beside it appears misaligned.

Carol - instead of doing it this way, how about making a single conditional control? In the Fields tab, bottom of the list is "Add Item" button where you can add a dynamic image. I do this a lot and we had a recent thread on it so I know there's more info about this on the board.

Carol - glad to see you making the jump - I have not used grids for a year now, and the I could not do the projects I work on now without the UX.
                  Hope these images help.

I have been so busy today that I haven't had a chance to study on any of this. Thank you to all and I will try these suggestions in the next couple of days and let you know.

Sometimes I just have to laugh at myself. Early on in this development, I just started putting 1=1 as the condition of an image so that it would show, and just spaced on why the condition would even be there. So, thanks, Steve and Peter, for taking me out of my zombie zone for images. I have now put 2 conditions on a dynamic image and the conditions show one or the other of 2 images based on the condition. Duh....

On to try other suggestions now...
