Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Checkbox on UX Thinks it's Vertical

    I placed a Checkbox control on a UX. The Render as Button List is checked and the Orientation is set to Horizontal. There are 20 static choices. I also bound the control to a table and set the Field Name to a character field. When I first ran it, it showed two columns and clicking on the first choice enabled it (as it should). However, when clicking another one or subsequent choices, the previous choice was disabled, thereby only one choice was active at any one time. I deleted the control and set up another one. This time, I observed 3 columns but, I could enable as many choices as I desired. After closing the UX and reopening it, the choices were (and still are) in 2 columns. Aside from this strange behavior, I have 2 issues with this control.

    1) Is the fact that the buttons appear in columns instead of 1 or 2 rows a possible bug? (Attached)
    2) What else do I need to do to get the control to work? It is bound to a field but apparently that is not enough, another action is required. What action is needed?

    I have watched the video 3 times but find no indication of what else is required. I also did not find any help in the documentation and searching the message board did not produce either. Doesn't me there isn't something on the MB but I did not find it.

    Edit: Perhaps I'm barking up the wrong tree? The intended purpose of the control is to filter an embedded grid. I suspect the control must also be bound to the embedded grid. How is that done? The field the checkbox is bound to is also in the embedded grid.

    The Button List columns render, and wraps, to the width of the control. Set the width to, for example, 7in, and your buttons will render out to 7in and then wrap.

    My 20 Static choices all render and work as I expect (according to the width I set) and all function. Click on 5 of the 20 and saving puts those choices, as a common delimimted list, in the database table and field.

      Hi David,

      Setting the width took care of the column issue. Are you saying, assuming I set it up properly, clicking on the 2014 button should filter out all records but the records containing 2014? When I click on any button, nothing happens. That's why I thought there could be more to it. Your control is set up to function differently than mine so I would presume the setup should be a bit different.

      Thank you for responding.

        I almost have it. Alpha's instructions:

        //Set value in 'LASTNAME' field in the 3rd row of a Repeating Section.
        {dialog.object}.setValue('LASTNAME:3','Smith');

        //set the value in 'FAVORITECOLOR'. Assume that 'FAVORITECOLOR' is a multi-valued field (e.g. a Checkbox control or a Dropdown control configured to allow multiple values):

        {dialog.Object}.setValue('FAVAORITECOLOR[]',['alpha','beta','gamma']);

        What I have is a combination of the 2 plus the row number is unknown. These instructions pop up when editing the onClick event:

        If the field you want to set is in a Repeating Section, use 'name:rownumber' for the field name, otherwise the row with focus will be updated.

        This does not work: 'YRSELECT:rownumber[]' nor does this work: 'YRSELECT:rownumber' nor does this work: 'YRSELECT:[]rownumber' nor does this work 'YRSELECT:[],rownumber'. The results are the same, all choices are selected. I remover the :[] and rownumber from the code but all buttons are still selected. Hmmmm

        What code sequence is used to reflect the array and the unknown rows? Again, I am not trying to set or change the value in the YRSELECT field but filter the grid by selecting the year or years in the YRSELECT field.
