Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Design help for a "task assignment" ux

    Hi
In one of my apps, i need to add a "task assignments" management ux, something like the Punch List App sample ux.
The ux will either run in a desktop webapp( generally users that will be executing the taks ) or in a mobile web app ( generally the manager that creates the tasks ). I am therefore inclined to use a list control with multiple layouts to show the tasks.
Currently i have more or less all my design in mind, except how to assign the tasks to employees while creating a task.
When creating a task, it should be assigned to one or more employees. What control should i use to assign the employees to a task? At start thought of a list control with multiselect, but i don't know how to manage that while creating a parent record...

    Thanks for any ideas
    Jaime

Certainly a second list control would work - you'd just have to work out how to get the PK into the secondary list.

One way to do it would be to save the task first - maybe assigned a single employee, then assign additional employees after, if necessary.

You could also do a multi-select drop down or lookup.

It sort of depends on how many employees you have to list and how many you are going to select.

If you have hundreds of employees to choose from, you probably want to create a lookup ux, then store each name into a second list. After you save the task, then grab the names from the second list and manually insert them into the task_employees table.

    Hope any of that helps.

      Jaime,
If you want to display people assigned to various tasks then I would consider using Kanban styling in a LIST control. But I guess it all depends on how much time you have to put into working with Kanban - there's the css stuff that might take some tweaking, depending on how you want it to look and then there is the SQL query statement and table design that could take some work. "Kanban" is a Layout Type on the "List Properties" tab in the LIST builder. Search the video finder for "Kanban". If you find you need to tweak the CSS, more than just a little, then I'd recommend an interactive online CSS design tool like "https://codepen.io"

        Thanks guys, that's insightful.
In fact the tasks are assigned to a maximum of 10 employees. I think i may have to synchronize the child list of employees for the task in the afterdialogvalidate, after saving the parent record.

Looking at post#2, thats what I have in one of my apps but I have additional attributes for people called "role"
Then only these with a role that fits are selected. Task first them multiple dooers.
