Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Disable Save Button Until User Chooses an Item in Drop Down and Signs Signature Card

    I have a situation where I want to disable the Save button until the user completes 2 fields. One is simple enough, it's a dropdown selection. The second is a signature panel that needs to be signed by the user. How do I go about achieving this? I thought of using a 'Client Side Enable Expression' on the Save button's properties, as illustrated in my attachment, but it doesn't seem to work with the 'MaterialAcceptanceSignature' field (which is my signature control). Any ideas?

    Thanks!

    You could add a hidden unbound text control on your UX called "HasSignature" and in the Client side event OnSignatureCaptureAccept set the value of this control to "Y" or some other value. In your client side enable expression for your save button test the value of the HasSignature field to see if it is "Y".

      Thanks for the suggestion.

      Sounds like a great idea, Brad, but is there a client side event called 'OnSignatureCaptureAccept' ? I'm not so sure.

        If you go into the client side events and type "signature" in the filter you'll see it. It was added in one of the preview releases a couple of months ago in response to an issue I had of needing to be able to record a geolocation at the time that a signature was accepted even if the record wasn't saved at that moment.

          Re: Disable Save Button Until User Chooses an Item in Drop Down and Signs Signature Card

          I added {dialog.Object}.setValue('HasSignature','True'); to the onChange event of the MaterialAcceptance signature control. However, when the user clicks on the 'Sign' button, then signs and then presses the 'Accept' button, the javascript code that is supposed to change the 'HasSignature' field to 'True' does NOT fire.

          However, if the user clicks on the field area where the signature card will appear before clicking on the 'Sign' button, the onChange event fires. This is wierd and I can't expect the user to click in that area before hitting the 'Sign' button. Any idea why this is happening? Why aren't there events associated with the buttons of the signature control?

          See screenshots for illustration.

            Brad,

            I'm sorry I didn't see your latest message. You are the man! Yes, indeed that 'onSignatureCaptureAccept' event was 'hiding' in the client-side events list on the left. I'm still not very used to Alpha's unique geography of events, controls and everything in between!

            Now everything works as planned. Thank you very much for your invaluable assistance!

              Hi Peter,
              What I do in this same situation is use a toggle

              First create a hidden, unbound, numeric control with a default value of zero and call it "toggle"
              Then, In the OnChange event of each pulldown use this inline javascript:

              Code:
              var total = {dialog.Object}.getValue('TOGGLE');
              total == total + 1;
              {dialog.Object}.setValue('TOGGLE', total);
              Next, on your button's "Enable Expression" property use: toggle = 2

              Hope that helped.
