Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

jSON data & xBasic argument

I have jSON data in an existing xBasic function and I need parse out the "GroupID" field from the jSON data string to use it in an xBasic argument. How can I do this? I see the data in the debugger but not sure how to get the "GroupID" into an argument value. This will be used in a loop and there will be multiple "GroupID" values in jSON.

Thanks.

you can shove your JSON into an XBasic property array...

Code:
dim myJSON as c = "[{col:1,row:1,size_x:2,size_y:2},{col:3,row:7,size_x:1,size_y:1}]"
dim arr[0] as p
a5_JSON_PopulateArray(arr,myJSON)
'Now you have JSON in an XBasic Property Array

Thanks David .... It just hit me that my jSON string is already in an array.

For those interested this is how I solved my problem...

Code:
dim jp as p
dim size as n

jp = json_parse(jSON)
size = jp.size()

for i = 1 to size
val = jp[i].GROUPID
'Do stuff here using val as an arg
next i

Re: jSON data & xBasic argument

Ken, "jSON" is the variable that I created in my xbasic function that contains my jSON array. It gets it's data from a SQL stored procedure. Below is the code structure that takes my result set from SQL, creates the array, populates a list control, and then parses the array, creates the variable I need in a for/next loop.

I hope that explains it better.

Code:
dim jSON as c

[COLOR="#FF0000"]'execute SQL stored procedure here along with various other bits of code that are not relevant to jSON[/COLOR]

jSON=cn.ResultSet.ToJSONObjectSyntax()

jSON = stritran(jSON,crlf(),"," + crlf())
jSON = rtrim(jSON,",")
jSON = "[" + crlf() + jSON + crlf() + "]"

[COLOR="#FF0000"]'populate my list[/COLOR]
dim js as c
js = <<%str%
{dialog.Object}.__jSON=__jSON__;
var listOBJ={dialog.Object}.getControl('Claim_List');
listOBJ.populate({dialog.Object}.__jSON);%str%
js = stritran(js,"__jSON__",jSON)

dim jp as p
dim size as n

[COLOR="#FF0000"]'Below is the code snippet I posted above. I have yet to complete my for/next loop but the variable "val" contains the field I needed (GROUPID)[/COLOR]
jp = json_parse(jSON)
size = jp.size()

for i = 1 to size
val = jp[i].GROUPID

next i

Re: jSON data & xBasic argument

I did understand that.

My point was just that you do not have to use a5_JSON_PopulateArray() at all anymore to get array of properties from json

Re: jSON data & xBasic argument

In this case json_parse and a5_JSON_PopulateArray produce exactly the same results. They both parse string formatted as JSON.

I believe Mike is working with a string... and needs to get properties of an array.

myJSONarr = [{"col":1,"row":1,"size_x":2,"size_y":2},{"col":3,"row":7,"size_x":1,"size_y":1}] is building an array within XBasic and in this form does not have properties of each member.

I must say I have read this many times but still mystery to me.
In your post #2 in this thread your result is xbasic property array but in the above example not?

Re: jSON data & xBasic argument

Mistyped... myJSONarr = [{"col":1,"row":1,"size_x":2,"size_y":2},{"col":3,"row":7,"size_x":1,"size_y":1}] does, obviously, build a pointer variable...

I thought Mike was working with a string... not an array. Maybe I misunderstood.
