Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

UX Component Lookup Field are HUGE!

I have a web page with multiple UX dialog components to allow users to print reports. One report, called the "Monthly Staffing Report," only has two options and both are lookup fields ("Month" and "Year"). The year LU has static data in it, and it only went as high as the year 2020. Today I added "2021" to the list, and when I saved the component and viewed it on the web page, the Lookup Fields had turned huge, and the "Submit" button had changed so that it doesn't match what was in there before. (If you look at the screenshot to the right, you can see what size the lookup fields looked like before I updated it today.)

Any idea how to get those LU boxes back their normal size?

Are you using a 'compact theme' in the UX property? If not, the sizes are more optimized for mobile devices.

this is one of the many times it helps to post the component as well.

In the ux properties is the "compact" option selected?

Sorry guys, I was in a meeting. I've looked, and I don't see where the "compact" option is. Am I just missing it somewhere?

            Hi Rich

No the properties for the UX itself not the control. Although visibility may depend upon the style sheet in play

Okay sorry about that, I don't use UX components that much. So I checked and compact theme was not checked. I checked it and published, and although it is much smaller, it's still bigger than it was previously. The components to the right have the size that the LUs were before.

Okay so progress. Pending on the style sheet you may have to tweak it to reduce the style further. CSS is your friend here. Use the chrome debugger/inspector to establish the css class in use.

                  Hi Rich,
I suggested providing the component because there are many variables that
can affect the display and that means too much guessing. The image below
shows controls with no formatting with the possible exception of any css applied
                  by the containers

Thanks Glen and Madtowng. I'd be happy to provide the component here but I honestly don't know how. Should I zip it up and make it an attachment?

I think that's the best way to do it.

Watching this with interest as I am having a somewhat similar issue with a UX lookup not behaving as it should and appearing much larger than it should when published.

                            Hi Stephen,
I haven't heard back from Rich yet.
I didn't take the time to check before but exporting a component is as easy as right-clicking the component in the control panel, then choose export.
