Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Latest server (7715) web server crashing

Using the latest build (7715), I am experiencing constant crashing and I'm unsure what could be causing it.

I don't have a DMP file when the crashing happens, so the info is limited.

    How can I troubleshoot this?

We had a severe case of that problem in prior builds. We're currently on the nightly build the day before that official release. No crashing, but slow as molasses in February. Requests are in to Alpha for help and I'll share anything I think useful here. You, too, might want to be in touch with Alpha on this.

      Thanks Steve.

I think I might have figured out the issue on my end. My client has all their new servers locked down using some kind of cybersecurity software called Carbon Black (https://www.carbonblack.com/), and once they put it in bypass mode (and then eventually whitelisted Alpha), the web server seemed to work.

I will continue to monitor, but I'm glad that it isn't the stability of the Alpha software in this case.

Edit: Alpha is performing slower on 7715, and I'm unsure if the monitoring software is causing it. It is using almost no CPU but a chunk of RAM.

I never EVER jump to a new build until it's at least 30 days old. And even then I often don't. Too risky for an app that's in production.

Yes Mike, my preference too. But we jumped as quickly as we could because the previous official build had too many problems for us.

Adam - we're on Google Cloud so know and have control over everything. This also means we have objective stats of server usage from before and after the patches. Our CPU utilization rate is way up.

            Build 7725- 5579 12 JUN 2021 -7:55 AM
            Bugs

Application Server - Fixed an issue where the Server might stop responding to requests after it has been running for a while.
I'm thinking maybe that's cause for a new Official Release.

The problem is that if we don't upgrade to the new version, then after a year upgrading will be too difficult. A lot will have changed.
that's a real headache, I believe a lot of users are not upgrading anymore. but as I said this is problematic.
As said by many users previously, I prefer to have a lot less feature in each upgrade but having the release more solid.
If I was a decision-maker at ALPHA I would not release any new feature for a couple of months and make sure all current features are working flawlessly.
As a developer, I lose a lot of time just to make sure if what is not working is due to a bug, missing documentation or something else.
Enterprise software should be ROCK SOLID.

I don't see this version in the new installer...:(
It was just the application server or also the developer edition too.

It's in the available in the Installer as nightly build.

I also had to upgrade to the latest "stable" build 7715 because of bugs in the previous release. I have had multiple UXs that would not load. Most were fixable by recalculating all controls. Some were not. I spent 2 days tracking down the problem with one UX. Turned out deleting one control and re-creating it fixed it.
Lots of smaller issues like edit-combos that don't behave correctly. All my drop-down controls have a blank selection, even though they are set to "user must select from list".
I have also had several instances of the WAS not responding.

Had to fallback to a previous version. Too many issues with 7715.
