Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Help with Cordova App

I am having a terrible time compiling an app in Alpha for use on an Android phone.

I am trying to go the free route of a straight Cordova build. I have followed the instructions and I have everything installed. If I don't include any plugins, I it will compile, but then it won't work because it needs some of the plugins!

But with some of the plugins checked, I keep getting dependency errors in the log, especially on the document handler.

I do not know how to resolve these conflicts.

Will to pay for support! I need someone who knows how to set this up so it works. I have multiple apps I want to create, but can't really get past step 1.

    Hi Larry,
So, you aren't using Ionic AppFlow? You could save yourself a LOT of headaches man.

Ionic starts at $42 per month for a single build, and I have to do at least 3. The next level is $102 per month.

I am just not ready to make that type of monetary commitment for something that I SHOULD be able to do for free.

I have a customer who has the $42 ionic account and it works great for their single app.

Further Note: It turns out, my problem is with plugins. If I turn of all plugins and do only straight Alpha controls that talk to data, everything works fine. But I want to be able to open pdf files and when I try to include the file plugins, it won't compile properly.

My guess is that you'll need to find an updated file plugin and tell it to use that one instead. Are you getting an error during the build process that says its deprecated or something?

But I have no idea how to do that.

The entire process is handled within Alpha once all the software is installed. I have no idea what software to update or where.

Also, I am not putting in any of my own plugins, I am just using the ones available within Alpha's Cordova builder.

That is why I am hoping to find someone to help. I even put in for 5 hours of mentoring from Alpha a couple of days ago, but have yet to get a response from that either. (Though I may find cheaper to simply purchase Ionic as I have no idea what the 5 hours will cost me.)

You can do an unlimited number of apps in Ionic with the base plan. The limit you are referring too is the number of concurrent builds that can be done at any one time, which means how many servers you can have access to. Here is what you should do. Get the base ionic appflow plan (called Launch) and then at the very least you can test with it until you can figure out your CLI issue. You can make progress on one front and try to figure things out on the other front. Right now you can't even get started, which I know if frustrating. If you want help setting things up I can help you.

If I can do multiple apps with Ionic appflow, then I can likely figure out how to cover the $42 per month. Thank you. That was apparently the help I was looking for and I didn't even know it!

You'll like the ionic appflow process once you get it going. Somewhere this a video on it, and I did a presentation on IADN about it also. I'm sure that video is out there somewhere also. You can ask Steve Wood if you can get a copy of it.

Have you tried Alphalaunch? Alphalaunch apps are phonegap apps

I have used it on a couple of apps for testing and I works very well

I do use the cordova builder.
I remember setting it up for the 1st time was not easy. Once it is working it is relatively easy.
Make sure you have the same version of Java and github as in the dosumentation.
I think It didn't work until I uninstalled the Java and reinstalled the older version. (I am not sure, but I remember it was a struggle to get to work )

I had that issue too, with the java. I can compile an app and get it on my phone, no problem at this point. The issue is when I try to use any plugins. Either the app will not compile or it will exit out when I try to use it.

For instance, I want to open a PDF in the app. But if click any of the plugins that say they open the pdf, the app will not compile for me. These are not custom plugins I am trying to download from the web, these are simply checkboxes in the cordova builder.

Anyway - I have since upgraded to Ionic. I do see that you can have multiple apps, though I have not been able to actually compile an app through Ionic either.

However, I believe it is simply a setup issue. I am going to uninstall everything and then start from scratch as I have done this before for a client and it worked fine.
