Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

      I do this quite often. The refresh grid on close property is great if you're UX is opened in a Modal window. In all other cases, however, I get complaints that "it doesn't update" if the Grid doesn't refresh immediately after making changes in the UX. I use this javascript (or variations thereof) to get the job done:
      Code:
      var po = {dialog.object}.getParentObject();
      if (po) {
        po.refresh();
      }
      This refreshes the whole grid.

      If you just want to refresh an individual row, look into calling {grid.object}.refreshRow(rowNum). You'll have to get the row number from wherever you need to get it.

      Good luck!

            When you save the UX you use a server side action Save Submitted Data to Tables.

            In client side events

            Use After Save Succeeded javaScript

              go to afterDialogValidate event in the dialog, scroll down to the bottom. you will see a code snippet like this and you can implement using that technique.

              '-------------------Closing the Window in Which the Dialog is Hosted -------------------------
              'In many cases the Dialog will have been opened in a pop-up Ajax window and you will want code in this event handler to close the pop-up window.
              'Here is how you can do this:
              'a) In the action that opens the Dialog in a window, set the Window title to something like this: MyWindowTtitle<span id="mywindowid"></span>
              'b) In this event handler set e.javascript to:
              ' var ele = $('mywindowid');
              ' {dialog.object}.closeContainerWindow(ele);
              thanks for reading

                Ah. The "Open UX Component to Edit the Current Record" Action Javascript doesn't have the option to refresh the Parent Grid on close. I'm not sure, but Alpha might do a refresh for you automagically in this scenario. There is a checkbox, however, to close the UX Component after submit. It's just below the "Working message icon" property.

                You could put your grid refresh javascript in one of two places:

                1. In the afterDialogValidate event inside the UX, you can return javascript to execute by adding it to e.javascript after you submit the records to the database (there is also a new property in the server-side action that Gandhi suggests - this may be a better place.)
                Code:
                dim js as c =<<%js%
                var po = {dialog.object}.getParentObject();
                if (po) {
                  po.refresh();
                }
                %js%

                'Make sure not to overwrite any data that is already in e.javascript
                'that was added by a server-side action
                'Also make sure e.javascript is defined, otherwise you might get an
                'xbasic error message (easy enough to fix by adding e.javascript = ""
                'as the very first line in the server-side event right after the function
                'declaration

                e.javascript = e.javascript + js
                2. OR, you could add this to the onHide event for the "Open UX Component to Edit the Current Record" Action Javascript:
                Code:
                {grid.object}.refresh();
                I would encourage you, however, to make sure that Alpha isn't already calling {grid.object}.refresh() for you when you close the UX Component. Doing the refresh twice doesn't make much sense. It also doesn't make much sense if you have to manually refresh the grid using this action...
