Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Getting a field value from a list in a CHILD UX and inserting the value in a field in the PARENT UX

    I have a UX with a button that opens another UX with a list control. I want to be able to click a button on the list control record and retrieve the AID# from that list and insert that number into a field on the first UX.

    You can reference parent objects in a sub component by using: .getParentObject and then using .setValue and then save. So, you would have a javascript function that references the parent object, finds the field in the parent list, sets the value of that field, then saves the parent record. Is that for the linking field between the parent and the sub? Because if so, it should be done differently.

      It is not for linking, it is only for a search for a previous entered number and to utilize it.
      Thank you.

        Put this in the click event of the button, where FieldName is the case sensitive name of the field in the list control:

        Code:
        [FONT=Calibri]var _par = {dialog.Object}.getParentObject();[/FONT]

        [FONT=Calibri]if(_par) {[/FONT]
        var _x = {dialog.Object}.getValue(data.FieldName);
        _par.setValue(UXControlName,value);

        [FONT=Calibri]}[/FONT]

          Thank you Pizzadude. I cannot get it to work but I think its because I did not explain it correctly and I may be confused on what constitutes a "parent/child" relationship. I assumed any UX that is opened from another UX would be a "parent/child", but I'm not sure that is correct.
          The UX that is opened with the list is not related to the UX that opened it, so does that mean it is not technically a "Parent"? The UX that is opened is a list of previous records that I want to retrieve the AID# from.

            The UX that is opened with the list is not related to the UX that opened it
            That makes a difference, but I am not clear on your situation.
            A UX that is opened is always related to the UX that opens it.
            If you have UX "A" with a button on it that opens UX "B", then UX "A' is the parent of UX "B".

            FYI I don't know where the [FONT=Calibri] came from in my earlier post.
            This is how it should read:

            var _par = {dialog.Object}.getParentObject();
            if(_par){
            var _x = {dialog.Object}.getValue(data.FieldName);
            _par.setValue(UXControlName,_x);
            }

            If UX "B" contains a list, and the list contains a button that appears on each row of the list, the above code should work.
            But you must change
            FieldName to the case sensitive name of the field in the list you want to obtain the AID# from.
            And also change UXControlName to the name of the control you want to target in UX "A". It should be in quotes, something like _par.setValue('MyContolName',_x);

              For some reason it is not picking up the aid_num field in the list control. So I did a workaround by capturing the aid_num in a textbox at the top of the UX when a row is clicked on in the list. I then use that textbox's value to send back to the parent. I also had to use "+_x" in the setValue.

              var _par = {dialog.Object}.getParentObject();
              if(_par){
              //var _x = {dialog.Object}.getValue(data.FieldName);
              var _x = {dialog.Object}.getValue('FILTER_AID_BOX');
              _par.setValue('aid_num',+_x);
              }

                OK, I got it working and getting the data from the list.

                var _par = {dialog.Object}.getParentObject();
                if(_par) {
                var _x = {dialog.object}.getValue('list::AIDNUM_LIST::aid_num');
                _par.setValue('aid_num',+_x);
                }
