Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Problem with moving my perpetual license to a new sever

I am running Alpha Anywhere 2682-4435 Application Server. I am moving to a new server. Someone at the Alpha Five office said that I could not move my perpetual license without renewing it.
First he claimed that the software would not work, but I have already tested it in demo mode, and it works.
This is wrong. The license is perpetual. If the software does not work or has issues running, that is my problem. But if the office will not transfer my perpetual license, that is wrong.
    Can anyone help with this?

I can't suggest I know a way around this except for going through the Alpha people. If you feel the information is wrong because it came from a sales person who doesn't know what they're talking about, you could go straight to Richard Rabins. I haven't had to move a perpetual license in many many years, but it certainly used to be possible. I'd ask for them to show in writing the requirement that prevents moving it and share on the forum what the response is.

Practically speaking, the perpetual license isn't supported anymore, and even the Windows versions it runs on are falling out of support. And changes to the way browsers handle certain things won't be handled in old code. So you're risking functionality and security. But I also understand that these might be risks worth taking.

Just move it. - work the rest out later.

There is no need for Alpha to do anything in order for you to move your license to a different system. The process is documented at https://documentation.alphasoftware....%20machine.xml

If your license is expired, you will not be able to run a newer build, but you already have that restriction on your current system.

Do be aware though that 2682 is extremely old in "Internet years", having been released in January of 2015, and it does not include any of the security fixes made since then. We urge all customers to not run old server software as this has the potential to lead to a server breech. That build has a number of known security exploits that have since been addressed. Continuing to run this out of date software is done at your own risk.

OK. Thank you. It would have been good if someone at the Alpha office pointed me in the right direction, however, as I made three calls to the office. Two calls were never returned.
