Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

      Hi Pete

Yes we have now, the install failed originally but has since worked.

That fixed the excel issue but now we have other issues with dialiogs not submitting when they worked perfectly well before
We now see a 500 Internal Server Error when we press submit

      thanks

I'm getting it now on build 8099 - I think might have AA has access to our servers through a link.

Not entirely sure but seems to be related to Dialogs with repeating sections

What was your previous version of AA? You may need to recalculate controls on your UX's and republish. I'd recommend backing up your project before doing that.

Also, make sure both your developer IDE and alpha server are running the same version.

I suspect that is your problem. AA has changed significantly over the years and if you're coming from a very old build some things are just not going to work (just based on my own experience). You may have to rebuild some things.

Alternatively, if you go back to your original (old) build and then incrementally update the project over several build versions (recalculating controls each time) that may resolve a lot of problems (again, just my own experience). Either way, you have a lot of work ahead of you.

The Server App was about 1 year out of date, the developer only a couple of months ... so not really too old in the realm of things

Selwyn is investigating as we have just discovered a simple look up and fill doesnt work now

I see, well specifics are important to get the right advice. Anyways, always keep the app server and developer on the same build. You're in good hands with Selwyn.

Yeah we try to do that but from our experiences we always seem to have issues each time we upgrade the server

We are also getting this now, on a component that has worked perfectly for years
                      500 Internal Server Error

                      Script Error

If your developer is ahead of the app server then you're setting yourself up for failure. They both must be on the same build. I understand that some builds break things. In those cases you need to roll back both to a version that works. I would start there. Get both the IDE and the app server on the same version. Recalculate all controls. Republish it all. I'm repeating myself here because it's unclear to me at this point if your IDE and server are on the same build.

I also just published an updated version of my app (both Developer and AA Server are 8301) and the downloads have just stopped working. The callbacks and reports, etc. work but when the user clicks the button to call up the download dialog nothing happens. This occurs across modules in the system.

Yes we are in discussion with Selwyn, seems 8301 is not a good one. We rolled back a few build's and our problems went away .. Seems 8301 has issues with repeating sections and other things

We are in the process of a building a test environment with nightly build of 8356

Thanks, great. I JUST managed to find a version that doesn't break my mobile app (duplicate data in lists when refreshing pages) and now this. Frankly, I'm waiting for "the other shoe to drop" when it comes to my client ferreting out problems; if no others show up I may just try to do a work-around. I really don't like to do this dance too often with Alpha and my apps.
