Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Web Application Server a5w_error.log

I would like to be able to interpret warnings and errors in the WAS a5w_error.log files.
I am seeing warnings and errors.
Is there any documentation on exactly what these mean?

[warning] [Thread ID: 1803d474fa274addb998e122b81afae3 Request Sequence: 325] Error 1828 accepting socket connection: Secure Sockets Layer OpenSSL Error - Timeout waiting for handshake data

I'm not sure if this will help, but I have robots.txt in only a couple of the workspaces in my A5Webroot, and one just in my A5Webroot. All of them look exactly the same when opened. I'd check to see if you have that file there. Mine has this in the .txt file.

    User-agent: *
    Disallow: /

This is not in all of my projects, and I'm not sure where it comes from. I have 1 Robot.txt that is in a workspace that has security enabled, 2 in workspaces that do not, and 1 in _liveTest. It is only in recent workspaces though.

From what I can see, the meat of the message is at the end.

The requested URL /manage/account/login was not found on this server.
unknown protocol - Error while Initializing INET::SSLSocket context - (Remote Address: 35.170.66.248 Remote Port: 33266)
Forbidden: c:\A5Webroot\robots.txt) Your security credentials do not allow access to this resource.<p>

The four lines I posted are sampled from among many lines with similar and other messages.
I am looking for a method to understand what they mean.
It looks like the WAS is receiving requests it does not recognize.
I use an IP blocker that automatically blocks IP addresses that attempt to submit certain commands.
But I would like to know whether there are problems with legitimate requests.

For example, I am trying to track down an intermittent issue with submitting data in a UX. It is a list control with a detail view. I have seemingly random instances where a UX is dirty but the submit command does nothing.
I can add a debugger placeholder and it says there is "nothing to do".
I have not been able to re-create it at will.
Perhaps the error log could shed some light if I knew how to interpret it.

Just taking a stab here until Lenny or Sarah chime in, but I think the xbasic error log might help.

            A couple "answers".

            1) yes, you are getting requests for files that do not exist. I'm sure your IP blocker catches some of them, but obviously not all of them. You might go through the error log and add some of the files they are attempting to access to your block list. However, you will find that is a never ending battle.

            2) The list control with a detail view is mostly controlled by Javascript. It may never even get to xbasic at all. You will want to check your console log when the issue occurs to see if there is anything there. It's possible that the list is not catching some of the changes or a certain change is causing a javascript error which botches the whole operation.
