Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Twilio - deadline of Dec 15, 2022

I recently received email from Twilio regarding changes coming in the near future (deadline: Dec 15, 2022) - something about users having to "register their brands and campaigns" or "will incur additional per-message carrier fees, and may be subject to filtering or blocking."

Does anyone know what if anything we need to do about this.

    I use alpha's twilio_send_sms function extensively.

Got the same email. The email lays out what you need to do. It's just typing in company name, tax ID, address, contact person, etc.

      Seems confusing to me to!
      https://support.twilio.com/hc/en-us/...-is-A2P-10DLC-

To really be compliant you should have a way for users to opt-in and out of receiving messages but it's not required. I think it's good they are doing this as it may help with spam. I am sick of getting messages asking me if I want to sell my house!
basically though, unless your sending out bulk messages to random people you probably don't need to worry about this. My best bet advice is to call customer support and ask them what they think.

Basically, login to your twillion account. Go to account, then Trust Hub Overview.

You want A2P messaging - which still says "beta" on it, so I'm not sure whether that Dec 15 date is going to stand if they are still in beta.

Basically, you fill out some forms and then give them some money.

            Hi Larry,

Your instructions were particularly helpful. I am still a bit confused however.

Are they saying I have to register EVERY phone number that SMS gets sent to?

When they talk about campaign fees, what is their definition of a "campaign"?

So, are we comfortable that this is NOT a major issue for Alpha. My concern is that so much depends upon SMS messaging - for example, 2FA, and so many other things.

Not in Alpha anyways. That's how I read all of this.

I missed the memo and all of my texts via the carrier Verizon Wireless recently were blocked. I subsequently did go through the compliance process with Twilio as others have described above. After I get approval, the block will be lifted.

Important note - as of that approval, all of my outgoing text messages will automatically include the option for the recipient to opt-out by replying with STOP or get information by replying with INFO. The carrier will actually block any attempt to send a text to anyone who has opted-out and the only way for them to start receiving the sevice is for THEM to send a text with the word START to my service number. This is very similar to how opt-out works with email services like MailChimp.

Gary, no. You register the one number the texts come from. See my most recent post on this below.

It DOES apply to you if you are using twilio_send_sms().

Interesting. I use Twillio exclusively for SMS services and my texts do not have this "OPT Out" message at the end.

                            Mike,

When Verizon blocked all of my outgoing Twilio SMS texts, and after contacting Twilio Support, I was forced to register with A2P. Its not until that registration is finalized (a few weeks they tell me) that (they say) my texts will include this opt-out message.

In my case, there is an Alpha app that is sending the texts, based on a check mark entered by the client (not the user) in the application next to their mobile number. My understanding is, that after this registration is complete, that I will NOT be able to just start sending text messages from my application and instead the mobile user will have to send START to my Twilio number. And, since my app needs to know when that happens, I will need to program the 'webhooks' at Twilio to inform my application when anyone sends a command to my Twilo number.

I know that all of my Twilio numbers, even those not registered for A2P, if I send STOP, START or INFO to my Twilio number that it does already interact with my message.

I have to study this more. There also is a mention of 'branding" which I think means my texts can show as coming from my company name instead of the telephone number.

Well, to add to this, I just recieved a notice from Twilo telling me I must "register your messaging use case (known as a Campaign) in Twilio Console or with Twilio APIs". I attached the notification.
